Another Sunday - Crewkerne and the rest

Hi All

Another week gone, this week it was the new Crewkerne 10k, I will give you a flavour of what the Green and Whites are saying...
Anne Wilson 'Very well organised by Crewkerne running club, no surprises for Anita, Karen or me, this is where we run every week'
Gillian Macpherson 'No flat bits so I like, excellent up and down route, very scenic.|I did 56.16, not bad considering I have man-flu. Wanted under the hour, so chuffed.
Crispian Macpherson 'Very challenging and great route, definitely worth doing, forgot to stop watch, about 43.10
Bryn Phillips 'Excellent race and very good route. When they say hilly, they mean hilly. Came in 6th with 38.17 and 1st green and white. Again well done Crewkerne for an excellent race.
Leyton Green 'Great race with some challenging hills, loved it.
Jon Crane '45 mins for a very hilly 10k, not bad for an old man with a dodgy knee
Anita Farquhar Rufus 'Lots of green and whites for the 1st Crewkerne 10k, excellent weather, still plenty of hills even without the lovely Summer Lane! Good crowd support and a nice touch of a kit bag at the finish.

I think we can say it was a super race and one to put in the diary for next year,

Crewkerne Results

Not everyone was at Crewkerne, following London Richard went to the race around Portland Bill, he sent in this...

The Wessex Ridgeway details to follow, all I know is that Rich suggests that Matt does some hill training so he can run up and not walk!!

Struggling to get motivated after London and on antibiotics for impetigo, decided to run the 11.2 mile race round Portland Bill just to get some interest back into my running. Fabulous off road course had shingle beach, grassy paths and plenty of technical rocky paths and a few hills just to round it off. In quite a small field finished in 3rd place overall and 1st Over 50 and ecstatic that I made the effort. A good course that deserves more support

I went to Marwell Zoo to make my yearly outing in the hilly Marwell 10k. Joining 937 other brave souls we set off in perfect, if a bit chilly conditions for the climb through the zoo, watched by puzzled giraffes, zebras, flamingos and a Cheetah and then out for the climb through the Hampshire countryside. It was a good race, well organised by Eastleigh Running Club. I finished in 45.43, my best time for 17 years, 333 certainly helped! Followed it by a special day at the zoo with the family, nice. See the pain below!

This weekend was the Grotty! The Lanzaotte Ironman, just a note to say a well done to some of my friends coached athletes, there were some great performances, the best being 12hr 5mins. That's doing a Marathon after a 2.9 mile swim and a 112 mile bike, food for thought, one for Crispian to test the new bike maybe!

IMPORTANT NEWS FROM MALCOLM MAXTED

I am pleased to say that I completed the Crewkerne 10k today without falling over or pulling a hamstring! so I will be alright to carry the Olympic flame on Tuesday.

Several people asked for details of where I will be running and I thought it would be helpful if you could add a short note to the Sunday email.

I will be running at approximately 7.40 a.m. along High Street to Market Street in the centre of Yeovil.  I do not have any more details such as the point at which I receive the flame or the point at which I pass it on.
