I am sure you are all looking forward to getting out there in the sun this weekend, remember the sun cream and enjoy the countryside. Think of me working at the London Pet Show at Earls Court, not even a window!
Just some thoughts for you to consider before the weekend...
As a club we now go out on our Summer runs, on Club Night on Tuesdays, the Pub Runs and the runs on Saturday and Sunday. It is fantastic that so many of you get out there and enjoy being part of our wonderful club which now has over 300 members.
But can I ask you just to keep a few things in mind.
The most important thing is your safety, while we have run leaders and run organisers you must, at all times take responsibility for your own safety. As it is summer we get out in the countryside on small lanes without a pavement. As the club grows there are more of you on each run so as we re-group we take up more space, think of other non running road and pavement users. And make sure you can be seen, bright colours are always best, even on light summer evenings.
The second most important thing is consideration for the residents of the clubs home town, Yeovil, and for road users, motorists, cyclists and others on foot.
A few simple things that will keep everyone safe and maintain the support and friendship of our neighbours and other road users..
1. On club runs always stay together and listen to the advice and guidance of the Run Leader.
YEOVIL TOWN RRC DO NOT LEAVE ANYONE BEHIND, PACE OF THE SLOWEST WITH REGULAR RE-GROUPS.
2. LISTEN to pre-run announcements3. Be seen
4. On roads without pavements run in SINGLE file and on one side of the road
5. Be aware of and courteous to other road users, they have as much right to the road as you.
6. When re-grouping keep space on the pavements to allow others through, if outside someones house keep the driveway clear, do not sit on garden walls and try to keep the noise down, they may have young children.
7. Enjoy your running and have fun, say hello to others out enjoying the summer, give a smile and a wave. A smiling face is always welcome.
You all do this anyway, but sometimes we all forget, trying for a good time, oops, in middle of the road! running along chatting about last nights Eastenders side by side on a country lane, standing in a group having a laugh while the lady with the buggy is trying to get through, cursing a driver trying to get home because he has the cheek to use the same road as me running, chatting while the pre-run announcements are made. We all do it.
So all I am asking you all is to Stay Safe and Think of others. No one wants an accident to happen to one of our runners and we want our neighbours and others to welcome and like having a strong and vibrant running club in their town
Have a great weekend running everyone, look forward to seeing you all soon.
Terry
