Yeovil Town hit the Thames

The Thames Meander Marathon

Some time in July / Aug Linda Membry thought it would be a good idea enter the Thames Meander Marathon and then press ganged a few others from the Club to enter as well. After Linda had a few names she started a new Facebook group and then planned the mission to get everyone there, sorted the Hotel and food oh yes and also some of the training with help from Lynne.

Friday came and slowly the YTRRC members started to turn up. The first outing was Prezzo's and to Carp up on pasta and Red Wine and then plan the route to the start line from the Hotel. Oh there was a bit of a mistake in the rooms with three ladies sharing one room with one bed and James Day on his own with three beds. So James just laughed and said they would all fit into the one bed easy enough, even with the funny noises coming from the girls room.

Saturday morning arrived and some walked the 25 min to the Race HQ and like you do bumped into a YTRRC runner lost in the Sainsbury's Car Park looking for a Cafe that the Supermarket never had.

Finally we were all there and race numbers collected and the first Club vote was taken, sadly some were still following their Sat Navs around London and missed the phot, sorry Kat.

James was the first Runner off in the 5k followed by the Marathon at 9:15 and Half at 10:00. The route was an out and back that followed the Thames to Putney and then turn round and back to the start. Some of the views were lovely along the Thames and the route had all sorts of surface but at least flat. The only issue were flying boats, dog walkers, people on bikes and some walkers. Don't they know there is a race on and to get out of our way. We had a really good trip, well Jo did as she slipped to check the ground was hard, still bounced up and carried on. Lesly and Helen completed the Half and the results are here. They both had a good race and then supported the Marathon Runners as we made our way back to the finish.

First YTRRC runner back was me having completed 4 Marathons that week, followed by Richard, Linda, Lynn, Jo, Georgina, Kat and Andy. The full results are here. Here are just some of the photographs and others are on Facebook.

That was nearly the end of the race but then we headed back via the pub back to Kingston and fell into some old phone boxes.

We then got the Train back to Yeovil, what else could happen.......Well Jo chatted up a drunk on the Train and Linda well she...... I will let Lind tell you:

Completed my 2nd Marathon yesterday at the Thames Meander. Completed in in 4 hrs 20 mins and 44 sec. So took 19 mins off my last marathon! Went pretty smoothly except we only had 2 beds for 3 if us. James came to our rescue and swapped rooms (he had 3 beds in his room for 1 person!) and I lost my rail ticket on the way home. Luckily the conductor didn't look too close at the duplicate rail ticket I was holding :o). Thanks Lynne Thumpston and Joanna Henley for being great room mates. James for his suuport.Lesley Nesbitt and Helen Nesbitt for letting us use there room after the eventBungy Williams for the drinks and red wine yesterday adn running the last 500 yards with me and Andrew BrownRichard DodgeNichola SingletonRebecca ParryKat Hurford and Georgina Richards and partners for making it a great weekend.

Lynda also emailed the Race Director:

Hi Dave
Thank you for a very enjoyable marathon yesterday. It was brilliant. Sorry I didn't get to meet you, can I say that the marshals were all lovely. The chocolate brownie were so lush and it was great to have lots of choice on the refuelling stations. The weather was prefect, could have asked for a better day. I got a PB. Lots of happy faces, I am sure we will be going this one again.
PS. We were the loud ones cheering in our team at the finish line.

Well done Linda on organising this and also the nice touch to email the Race director, good pr for the Club. Best supported as well as it was good seeing YTRRC runners on the way back to the start and passing giving loads of support and high fives. An excellent race and worth a try. Roll on next year.

Shame some of you did not make the Montacute Sunday run, a nice 15 mile recovery run, total miles ran this week by me is 120.

Yarcombe Races

Well done to Matt Driver who came if first.......in his age cat. Well worth the 50 pts and Cider. Well done to Pete and Emily as well for the 5 miler. The first across the line in the 10 miler was Lewis Bacon. Well done all. Results

This came in from Matt:

Well done to everyone racing today and tomorrow...obviously many of you are doing final races for your "hat". Today I was chasing Championship points and did a tactical move to the five mile course round the Yarcombe Yomp. Lewis Bacon took YTRRC honours in the "big boys" race (ie. the ten mile version, perhaps I should make THAT clear!), while I picked up FIRST, yes FIRST senior man for five miles. First thing I've ever won as an individual running, so the bottle of cider prize was ace!
Note to Lesley Nesbitt...that will be 50 points please...I thank-you!!!
