Lots of Marathons and Halfs

Tsunami in Dover Double

This weekend so Lynne, Pete, Paul and I go down to the Port of Dover Running Festival  for a Double Marathon, a first for Lynne and Pete (but not their last). When we arrived on Friday there was a heat wave and the views were stunning of the Dover Castle and the White Cliffs. In the distance there was a pier, hopefully we would get to go on it as it looked real fun, I wondered what the cone was for at the end of it.

Lovely Sunny Friday, you can even see the Sea
When we woke on Saturday morning and looked out of the Window we could not even see the Sea.

Can't Even see the Sea.

Nice Bling
Saturday saw the first Marathon, it was windy but dry and off we went for our first Lap of 12, it was up the Seafront to a cone run round it and then run to a Clock Tower up onto the Pier to another cone and keep doing it for 12 times, simple. We all did well the first day and just couldn't wait till the next day to do it all again. Even though Lynne and I made it 26.94 miles on our watches.

Bring it On
Then when Sunday arrived the wind and rain came as well, the conditions were terrible and even those with 1070 marathons to their name said the same, still as runners you just smile and crack on. The first half was both rain and wind but at least the rain stopped but the wind got worse and worse. At one stage I nearly lost my pasty it was that bad. There was one good leg with the wind behind you but when you turned it was like running and not going anywhere. It was still amazing to see that every time you passed someone you both managed to smile (or cry). Paul managed third on the second day so got a prize.

Then I finished followed by Pete, then the wind got even worse and while we were sat in a Cafe having a full fry up Lynne had just one lap to go when they closed the Pier due to the dangerous Fisherman and Wind and was left with having to keep to just the seafront. So that was 53 miles done in two days. Both Pete and Lynne did great and both were surprised how their legs were crying out for more on Monday morning. But we had to leave to make our way back to Yeovil.

Well that was the plan but Pete's Sat Nav had other ideas. I didn't realise how nice Scotland is this time of year........

Yeovil Half Marathon

Sunday saw the 5th running of the Yeovil Half Marathon and as normal the Club had loads of runners racing the event. There were rumors of wet and windy weather but it seems it was hot and a light breeze. Hope no one got Sunstroke.

The Group Phot
There were 78 YTRRC runners with Simon Rayner the first Male and Lauren May Price the first Lady so well done to both of you. Paul Meadows was the Clubs Official Photographer but got up a bit late and missed the leading Club winner Simon Rayner and just caught one of Lauren. I was told he was putting on more Sun Cream and that is why he was late.

The Winning YTRRC Lady

It was good to see Terry Byrne back in Somerset and in a Green and White vest, rumors are he will be back for the Yeovil Full Marathon.

Well done to all the first timmers on their Half and all those that got a PB, please add you time to the PB table which can be found here. Well done to Sean Gaffney on breaking the sub 2.

Thanks to all that helped Phil on the day with the tent and all those that made the Cakes. Hopefully we will get some new members now that they have seen the Club in action and the Aid station that Jane Allen ran near Wicks and Pau Meadows for helping here, oh, no apparently he sat in his Car and watched Jane suffer in the light breeze.

The Club members sprinted by Jane with the Club Photographer taking what pictures he could from his Car.

The Full Results can be seen here.

Notices

Easter Bunny next Monday - lots of help please! Marshals, car parking, chip distribution (in envelopes this year!!!), setting up the venue. Also we need someone to be the 60 minute pacer - it would suit someone who wants to complete the Somerset Series but is not too worried about their position - your entry would be covered by the club! Let Phil Mcquaid know tomorrow evening if you can help in any way. Thanks
