Portland 10 Miler
A Club Championship Race this morning down at Portland and also for those needing a 10 miler for their Hat. Paul Card was the first Club runner over the line and managed 3rd place overall, great running Paul. Our first lady was Nikki Guiver. Both Nikki and Paul got an award and the girls were also rewarded for first place.
We had 11 runners in the race so well done all a great turn out for the Club. The full results can be seen here.
Quantock Beast
Another race today the Quantock Beast with yet more Green and Whites there. No results or any details but well done all.
Portsmouth to London
Well done to Sean and Fiona on their latest challenge to cycle from HMS Victory to London during the night, with four punctures it still did not stop them. Well done both of you an amazing achievement. Just a BBQ to crack.
Charmouth Challenge
Saturday saw the Charmouth Challenge and a few Club runners took part. Stu Cobb was the Club's first runner over the line with Mel Denham our first lady. The full results can be seen here.

You may all be running tomorrow but I'm resting but good luck! Thanks to all the organisers and marshals, another well organised event.
Forde Abbey 10k
Thursday saw the Forde Abbey 10k and a great turn out from the Club. There were a few rivers to cross that Jo loved and she has already signed up for next year's race.
The Somme Marathon
Friday the 1st July at 7:30 1916:
The first day on the Somme began 141 days of the Battle of the Somme and the opening day of the Battle of Albert. The attack was made by five divisions of the French Sixth Army either side of the Somme, eleven British divisions of the Fourth Army north of the Somme to Serre and two divisions of the Third Army opposite Gommecourt, against the German Second Army of General Fritz von Below. The German defence south of the Albert–Bapaume road mostly collapsed and the French had "complete success" on both banks of the Somme, as did the British from the army boundary at Maricourt to the Albert–Bapaume road. On the south bank the German defence was made incapable of resisting another attack and a substantial retreat began; on the north bank the abandonment of Fricourt was ordered. The defenders on the commanding ground north of the road inflicted a huge defeat on the British infantry, who had an unprecedented number of casualties. Several truces were negotiated, to recover wounded from no man's land north of the road. The Fourth Army took 57,470 casualties, of which 19,240 men were killed, the French Sixth Army had 1,590 casualties and the German 2nd Army had 10,000–12,000 losses.
Lynne, Paul and I went down to Kent for the Somme Marathon that started at 7:30 am the same
time they went over the top. At 7:25 a short prayer was said followed by a minutes silence and Travs
started the Race with the sound of whistle blows. We ran along the bottom of the White Cliffs
of Dover and then along the front with smashing waves that soaked you if you did not move quick enough.
It was a 3.85 mile out and back with 7 laps making a Marathon, the way back was hard against
the wind and the plan was supposed to be to run for 6 hours and see how many laps you could do.
But after 7 laps that was enough for me so I rang the Bell and got my Medal. Lynne still had a couple of laps to do
so Paul ran these with her and he did about 34 miles. As for the Medal it has to be the best I
have got so far from my 99.9 marathons.

So today was for my Granddad (papa). Missed the battle of the Somme as he was already in a German prisoner of war camp, after being buried alive in an explosion, in earlier battle. So, one escape attempt fails, second attempt in July 1917, got him back to London , via Holland. A quiet and brave man, whose photo ran with me today. Thank you Traviss and Rachel for brilliant event, stunning and appropriate medal, and Guy and Paul for great company, with good old Mr A escorting me round the last two laps, hard run, but little compared to what Private P E Thumpston endured, along with millions of others. Never forget.
Brindley Place Canal Half
Luke Hicks did the above Half in Birmingham
Giants Head Marathon and Hill Race and Bell Race
Last Saturday saw the Giants Head Marathon, the Sydling Hill Race and also the Sydling Bell Race with YTRRC runners in all races. One of the best running weekends out there and just down the road from us. Dave Tinsley was the first Green and white over the line with Helen Nesbitt our first lady. Well done to Louise McKenna picking this for her first marathon, at least all the rest she does will be slightly flatter.
The full results can be seen here.
The Sydling Hill race had four YTRRC runners with Tom Handley first over the line and Anita was the first lady. Full results can be seen here.
The bell race was a hard race with a few Green and Whites in. No results but who cares it was great fun. Sadly I could not hang around as I had to get back into Glasto for Adele and Stellar. Well done to all and a great Club turnout. A big thanks to all the staff at White Star for the best Aid stations and putting on yet another great race.
What I would like to do is see if we can run one of the Aid Stations at one of White Stars events and promote the Club with a few banners at the aid station. If you recon you could do this let me know and I will see Andy Palmer.
Bath
I would just like to apologise to the people of Bath.
Enough said.
Lairig Ghru
Kenneth Berry:
Today I ran the Lairig Ghru, a 26.5 mile hill race from Braemar to
Aviemore going through the Lairig Ghru pass in the Cairngorm mountains.
There was a checkpoint around the 9 mile mark with a cut off time
of 1h30m and I was pleased when I went through it in 1h 13m 10s,
The middle of the race was rocky paths and several sections were
covered in boulders which we had to climb over.
There was a 6 hour cut off time at the and I was delighted when I
crossed the finish line. My official race time for the Lairig Ghru is 5:08:57.
The weather was clear and sunny until the last 5 miles when there
was drizzle but by then I was over the mountain and so it didn't matter.
1. Tuesday Club Night is at YTFC 6:30pm 5th July
4. The Pub run on Thursday is from the Podymore Pub at 6:30pm.
5. The Sunday Long Runs will be from Goldenstones at 9:00 am..
