Just a few Races

Butleigh 10k MT

Today saw the Butleigh 10k, a Club Championship Race.

From Kevin:

Today was the Butleigh Multi Terrain Race near Street, Race no 5 in the Somerset series and also a club Championship event which was well represented by Yeovil Town.
This event has been running for over 30 years and originally approx a 7 mile event some course changes put it closer to 6.5 miles today.
Changing rooms/showers and a great selection of cakes awaited the finishers.
a 5 minute walk to the start from the Playing fields ( in the interest od safety ). Starters orders we were off running 3 sides of a field and then diagonally across the field,
Ahead was to follow some challenging terrain, Darrell Sheen was first Yeovil runner up near the Front ( Don’t count Tim Hawkins in Wells vest ), Everyone by this time is settling into their pace Matt Driver realises 1st mile a bit quick and eased off  ( before stopping to be sick and let me catch up ), mixed terrain included bogey water logged fields, tracks and trails through undulating woods steep ascents and descents, periodically broken up with
ventures back on to tarmac, soon back into narrow path jumping Badger holes and avoiding branches above.
Tim Hawkins was first ( again ). Darrell Sheen was first Yeovil runner home, Matt Driver and sick bag .. second YTRRC and Kevin Doherty Third YTRRC.
Kirsty Norman was first YTRRC Lady home followed by Jo Henley as second YTRRC Lady ....  Sorry not sure who was Third and results not in yet.
This was actually a really enjoyable event .....  never like the 1 lap around the sports field at the end.

Well done to all Yeovil Town runners

Sunday Club Runs

From Anita:

Sunday morning club run, wish I'd turned my strava on properly. At least I have my Garmin to record the 20.4 miles slightly undulating route. Thanks to Emily, Louise, Frances, Kimberly, Georgina, JC and Martin for the company :-)

Wessex Ridgeway

Dear Yeovil Town Road Running Club
As your club has previously entered The Wessex Ridgeway 100km Relay I thought I should pop you an email to let you know that after 13 years of organising the event Chris Cussens has handed over the reins to The Dorset Doddlers. We are very excited to be given the opportunity to organise it as we have always loved competing in this epic race.
So without further ado I accordingly invite your club to muster a team or two and join us on 21st May for an epic day out. Not much has changed, we’ve returned to the tradition of the race and have a lovely mug as a memento of the day, food at the pub is included in the entry fee, and we’ve secured a full case of 8 bottles of Badger Beer for each member to the winning open and ladies teams.

The race is Self-navigate, Self-drive, Self-support with plenty of fun and banter along the way. If you are interested then please have a look at the race website for detailshttp://www.wessexridgeway.co.uk

Or visit the race page on FaceBook where we’ll be sharing lots of route photos as we get nearer to race day.
If you are intending to enter a team or two, I would recommend doing so shortly as we have now got 19 teams signed up out of a possible maximum of just 25 teams. For your convenience I have attached an entry form together with a flier to distribute amongst your club members.
We are looking forward to a fantastic day with many of the usual teams entering.
All the best
Jane

Cerne Giant Challenge

The Cerne Giant Challenge is run by the Long Distance Walkers Association (LDWA) and is a 20 or 30-mile walk/run. I say 30 but it was 31 but what's in a mile (another bloody hill). It starts in Cerne and takes you up all the hills in Dorset (Giants Head route with more thrown in), the aid stations are well stocked with sandwiches, cake, tea, coffee, crisps and rice pudding.  I thought it would be rude not to taste it all. At the end, back at the Village Hall, you sit down and some lovely ladies bring you Tea, Soup and bread.

Both Paul Allen and I ran round together and although there is no medal at the end, you do get a Certificate. All this for about £13.

Weymouth Bay 10k

Layton Green got a top 3 finish today at the Weymouth Bay 10k, well done.

Best ever finish today at the very windy Weymouth Bay 10k. Been 4th 3 times but finally got in the top 3.

3rd place baby 👶💪😀

Thanks for the support as always Stacey Black x

Marks Runs

SUNDAY TRAINING

I trained for the Yeovil Half this morning running the old route in the opposite direction (ACW). Very pleased with sub 2 hours. I decided to miss the 20 miler as I was breaking in a brand new pair of running shoes and didn't want to get too far away from the car just in case of blisters. The shoes are good, however.

BUTLEIGH PUB RUN
We were 3 groups tonight. 5 of us running with J.C. As we left the pub It was still light, and the sky was cloudy. I don't remember seeing stars or the moon all night. The run was a fast anti-clockwise loop. We headed south-east to Barton St David. I think left, right, and left got us onto Honey Mead Lane. We were running towards Baltonsborough. We took a left down a cul-de-sac to see the church, but It was too dark by then. The next left turn took us to Moorhouse. Lights to the right may have been Glastonbury 3 or 4 miles away across Kennard Moor. We went right then left along Cedar Walk. This turned into an incline and we came out on the Butleigh road. Less than a mile got us back to the pub. The total run distance was 7 miles. We passed the other 2 groups running in the opposite direction. Thanks again J.C. Phil and all.

Parkrun

Well done to Jo (50) and Simon (100) on their birthdays, no I mean their Parkrun numbers this week at Montacute.

Bristol Half

BRISTOL HALF MARATHON - Sunday 17/09/17
I am happy to arrange this as a club trip again. It's a good course for a pb and with approx 10,000 runners, there are lots of supporters around the course to cheer you on.
We need 20+ club members to get the discounted places at £31.20p. I will collect the payments and manage the booking.
You do need to be a paid-up YTRRC club member to qualify for the place.
In recent years the club have provided a coach for the journey so it makes for a great day out :)
Please let me know if you are interested asap.

So far I have 8 interested.

Thanks,
Anita
