The Full Monty Cute

The Blackdown Beauty happened yesterday, have heard it was great but muddy day out. Details and photo's later, so follow the blog!

Had this through from Lesley reference the Swanage Half Marathon, well done to all involved!

Enjoyable run at the seaside on Saturday, running the Swanage Half Marathon. Five Yeovil runners - Fred and Sue Fox, Simon Rowbottom, Jo Whaites and myself. Jo got her wish of rain which was steady for the middle four + miles, otherwise dry and mainly cloudy so good conditions; a good route with plenty of hills and good views. Not brave enough for a complete dip afterwards, but Simon and I did go in the sea up to our knees - I'm sure this counts as an ice bath!!

Swanage Half Results

This from Phil ...

Following a recent incident in which a female club member was involved

From Sue Fox - My Daughter Julia sent this disturbing message to me last night

'Don't know if you can spread the word to any of your running friends but a friend, Hannah,  that I ran Brighton with was running around Luton Manor this morning and a man in a car started following her really slowly then over took her and stopped the car got out and opened the back doors and stood in her way she freaked out and ran away and hid she heard him walking around looking for her!!!!!!

Luckily he didn't find her and she had her phone on her to call for help! Don't think I'll ever run down there again!!!!!!!!

Can some spread the word just in case there is some one on the prowl I do not know if the police are aware

Sue Fox

If any thing like this happens please try and get his car number and tell the police

Always take care and if running alone take a phone or an alarm if you can! This is a serious incident, but thankfully happenings like this are not common, but if it does happen lets do all we can to get people like this off the streets.

If you do worry about running alone, we have nearly 300 members, if you are looking for another member to run with then I am happy to put a request out on the blog, or have a chat with people at the club nights on Tuesdays!

On the other hand Phil says 'I have been running around there for thirty years, but then again I’m an ugly old Bloke'

Club Run - Next Tuesday 5K Handicap Plus runs from Summer Route 1

Next Wednesday Committee Meeting at the Forum Cafe. Abbey Manor. As usual the meetings are open to all fully paid up members. Under the Chairman’s directions only urgent business questions will be considered in A.O.B. This is a temporary move from the normal date due to race commitments.

So if you want something to be brought up e-mail The Chairman (address in the Web Site) and have it added to the Agenda

If you have time please have a read of this

Most of you will remember Challenge 333 in support of Alfie and Arthur in their battle against Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, young boys who will never have the choice of running, or even, after 6 or 7 years of age even the choice of walking. At the time there seemed no hope. Richard was so moved by the boys story that he was inspired to come up with his race series, and over 30 of you turned out with me on a freezing wet day at the end of April to support 333. Well results do happen and NOW THERE IS HOPE!

I do not understand the full medical jargon, but a drug has been discovered called Skip Exon, which can be used to address the relentless march of the muscle wasting involved with Duchennes, it also helps prevent the associated heart problems. This drug should be ready to start treating the boys in 2014, as I understand it, currently it is estimated 14% of boys with the condition will be treated by 2014, the charity Action Duchenne  are looking to raise £5 million so that ALL boys can be treated (About 1,500 at any one time).

To support this aim, alongside Richards Challenge, I have decided to emabark on a challenge that will really test me, both physically and in fitting it in. I have come up with Challenge 54321 - Countdown to Hope! I will complete 5km of swimming, 4 hundred km of biking, 3 events (The Milland Valley Trail, The Southampton Triathlon and the Maiden Newton Madness) , 2 Hundred km of running in 1 Month, (August). 54321 - simples!

333 Was about awareness, awareness has led to the position the fight against Duchennes is at today, I am now asking you to support both Richard, and if you are able, the ability to treat all of the boys and give them hope! please go to the following page where you can donate

challenge 54321 - Countdown to Hope

Thank you for reading, if you wish to take up the challenge and take on 54321 with me through August let me know, if you can join me on any parts through August, fantastic, I will be with Richard at the Shillingstone Hill Race, If you can join Richard on any of his 4 races brilliant! And if you can contribute, please do so, I never do sponsorship, but for me, to help to give hope where there was none makes it worth it!

Have a great week, see you all soon.

Terry
