The Three Peaks, 3 Races and Green and White Success

Busy weekend, with the Salisbury Half, The Great South and The Stickler

Despite everything going on I wanted to start the Blog with a post on Face Book from Aimee Deeney. It sums up what our fantastic club is all about. I will lets Aimee's words say it all, Debbie, you should be very proud and satisfied...

Thank you to all the fantastic people in this club, especially the people who give up their spare time to run all the different sessions and make it what it is. I completed 10 miles today at the Great South in 1:40:14. I didn't ever think it was possible when I struggled to keep up in the beginners session my first night and was always the slowest at the track. What an amazing team for support and encouragement. Also, to those who ran today and especially our team of 4 at the finish. I was so pleased when you found me at 8 miles and helped me dig deep for the last part. I was definitely out of my comfort zone. :-)

Thanks Aimee and a massive well done!!

The Stickler, 18th edition, Coming of Age. For those who have not experienced the joy that is the Stickler, otherwise known as The Dorset Three Peaks Challenge, let me tell you a story.

The Stickler is tough, a serious challenge, over 10 miles with more than 1600 feet of climbing. Why do we keep going back? that is a good question...

The three serious climbs with the little cheeky ones in between? the mud? The views? The atmosphere? The challenge? The entrants? Who knows, but back we go, and as we scale those  heights we moan, we struggle, but the satisfaction at the top is good!!!

The race starts up hill. then goes up hill, then it goes up hill, each of those up hills is steeper than the last, its the Stickle Path, it was here that Fred said 'Hi Terry' as he went past! Then a long run along the top and down, down, deeper and down (Status Quo Fan, sorry) until two cheeky little lumps that no one remembers before a rapid decent to half way and across the road. Did I say half way way? in miles yes, in hills NO!! 2 more. So up the 2nd hill, a long, long footpath, all up and just when you think you are up, over the brow and guess what? More up!!!. And then a nice touch, as you descend from hill 2 you can see people climbing what looks like an almost vertical climb opposite. And when you get there it is just that, an almost vertical climb, then along the top, up a field (yes up) and then its down hill, very steep down hill, dodging the rabbit holes, then across a field a sharp right and Shillingstone Station is in view, a solid run to the finish. How do you feel at the end, satisfied, chuffed, knackered, muddy and smiling.... Bring on next year, 90 minutes to break, got to be done!!

I only have the following results so far, apologies to Richard, Lesley, Jane and the rest, I will update the blog when I have the rest of the results

Jill was 1st lady in her category, amazing, well done Jill

From Tony Watts on The Salisbury Half, great run Tony!

I ran the Salisbury half marathon today in 1hr 37 mins and 10 seconds! This is my quickest half-marathon time for years!! last year I ran the Taunton half in 1hr 43 mins 54 secs so I've improved alot since then!! Todays course was hilly too with a hill that lasted about half a mile at the 5 mile mark! it was an undulating course with 3 smaller hills as well! Definitely not a pb course so I am well chuffed!! will look for something quicker next time lol!!

Richard Dodge wants to say thank you all who helped and surpported the Inca Trail the boys of azul wasi are very grateful for our cheque and continued help for the orphanage and the street children of Azul Wasi Peru in Peru £384.93 will go a long way. Great stuff EVERYBODY involved.

Kimberly Anne Weston really enjoyed the pub run on Thursday after she got over
her fear of the dark. She sends her thanks for an enjoyable 6 miles plus.

Paul Allen is planning a 14-15 miler next Sunday as the latest offering from the 'Longer Sunday Social Run' - meet @ 0900 at Goldenstones as usual to join the fun. Sure there will be cake with the usual shorter social run team afterwards.

Gillian Macpherson is looking for a half marathon at the end of January or in February? Any ideas?

Paul Allen can't believe 40,000 Berlin Marathon entries sold out in 3 hours..........first 10,000 entries went in the first minute. Lucky to get a place again.
