The Sunday After... What a Weekend

Yeovil to Swindon Relay- This weekend another glorious chapter was written in the history of Yeovil Town Road Running Club, its not just a running club, it's THE RUNNING CLUB!

I have to mention the three by name - NIGEL MOYSEY, NICK BROOKE, SIMON BAKER. If you have ever run a marathon, imagine doing 3 in a row and then add another few miles......

A Report from Nigel, one of the famous 3 80 milers

Well, what a cracking day  – from departure from Huish Park a little after 6.00 p.m. on Friday to arriving at The County Ground in Swindon at 01.45 p.m. on Saturday and back in Yeovil a little over 24 hours after leaving.

I really don’t know where to start or finish so I’ll lust jot a few disconnected thoughts that don’t by any means do justice to the huge enjoyment this event provided for me.

The fantastic atmosphere through the whole event.

The huge support given by the relay runners to the full distance runners. They must have been really bored by the (mine in particular) slow pace for the final thirty miles, but not a murmur of dissent – just support and encouragement.

The most mentionable moment – for me was Simon Baker’s sprint up the almost quarter mile long Hodson Hill at the 77 mile mark. The steepest tarmac climb on the route – and having done it he jogged half way back, did the second half again, still beat most of us to the top and wasn’t even blowing!

The brilliant welcome at Swindon – when they realised we were there. Far and away beyond anything I’d expected.

The weather – couldn’t have been better.

The fantastic support team, who deserve an individual mention:

Sally – for all her work in the lead up weeks and keeping everyone organised throughout. Brilliant;
Brian – for driving the minibus and keeping everyone cheerful along the way, although I understand that his snoring prevented the rest of the team sleeping;
Adam – for bringing his camper, providing warmth, sustenance, transport and facilities – and for accepting the mud and muck as “part of the job”;
Steve – for providing and driving the Total Buzz Events safety vehicle – and doing an excellent job;
and Theresa – What can I say. Dropping me off to recce the course in stages on Saturdays and Sundays in the lead up weeks and waiting for hours at the end each time to bring me home, learning the route and exactly how to find the stage changeovers, worrying about driving around the “Magic Roundabout”, controlling my sponsorship and getting the cash off me before I spent it but most of all for me, being there.

Also to Paul Proudley at Dorset Vehicle Rentals for providing the minibus totally free of charge.

I could ramble for hours but will finish with a plea.

Could all of those who have raised sponsorship – and you can still do so – please send to Theresa (as she’s banker for mine she’s happy to coordinate the lot.) as soon as possible, or there’s a Just Giving page that will remain open for three months: Swindon Just Giving
 Any cheques, best if payable to Yeovil Town RRC. Of sponsorship that I’m aware of there’s at least £1,600 at present . Every little extra will help.

And the one disappointment – the result of the game – 4-1 to Swindon, which I must say was a true reflection on the respective performances.

Nick Brookes said - Theresa, Brian, Adam, Steve, it was great to have your help and you never complained you weren't running. Thanks, and thanks everybody for your fantastic company and a wicked night out
Phil Macquaid said -What a fantastic run with equally fantastic people. My admiration for Nick, Nigel & Simon who completed the whole 80+ miles knows no bounds

Thanks to every one runners & support crew. I think we all had an emotional experience as we ran into Swindon Stadium. Just think of the reception we can expect on the return journey
Nick Replied - What's that, Phil? Return journey? Who said yesterday "If I have any more daft ideas just tell me where to stuff it." What a fantastic journey it was, much better than the train to Swindon, faster too.

     Important news from Matt

    Wessex League Cross Country - 25th November 2012
    Hudson's Fields, Salisbury

    Everyone welcome, don't worry about ability, just think of it as a Sunday morning version of a summer club run. The course is basically over playing fields so its not exactly difficult ground. It's quite low-key with maybe 40-50 people across the local area taking part.

    Everyone to meet at the football club at 9:30am to arrive at Salisbury for 10:30 and we will share transport (or make your own way). YTRRC pay the entry fee.

    Please run in your YTRRC vest/shirt and bring safety pins for your number. Those who have already performed at a Wessex League fixture this year MUST bring their running number.

    If possible, please email Tim Hawkins at runnerhasbeen@yahoo.co.uk to let him know you expect to take part. If unsure, speak to Matt Driver (at the club or via facebook) and he will reassure you.

    Matt and Tim (and others) will be taking part and the team need YOU to ensure the YTRRC Team gets results. There are Men, Women and age ranked places so please come along and have a go.
