Hi All, just an update following mid week posts.

IMPORTANT ... THIS WEDNESDAY 6th MARCH EGM BEFORE THE COMMITTEE MEETING AT THE FORUM CAFE, ABBEY MANOR PARK. TO DECIDE ON THE SUBS FOR NEXT YEAR FOLLOWING THE ENGLISH ATHLETICS INCREASE AND COSTS RELATING TO THE ARSON ATTACK ON THE TRAILER. 6:30 PM

Details...

EGM Wednesday 6th March 2013 – Background Information & Reminder
Wednesday 6th March 2013 at 6.30 pm at the Forum CafĂ©, Abbey Manor Park – Any change to venue will be notified in advance.

The Duties of the Committee include having the right to decide on Annual Subscriptions for Members.  Holding an EGM to discuss & vote on the proposed increases to Club Subscriptions gives all Fully Paid Up Members of YTRRC the opportunity to voice their opinion & vote on something that affects them and their Club.  Not a decision made by the Committee on their behalf with no input from them (EA & their increased EA Affiliation Fees).

The EGM was requested by Terry Byrne with regards to the proposal to increase the Club Subscriptions to cover the increase in Affiliation Fee from EA(1) and the option of increasing the Subscription fee to the club(2).

(1) England Athletics (EA) decided towards the end of last year to increase the Affiliation Fees for all Affiliated Members without any consultation with the Members or the Somerset County Athletic Association (SCAA). The £5 fee was to be increased to £20 for track & Field Athletes and £10 for Road Runners for the first year.   We and many other Clubs objected on behalf of our Members and the way in which this was done.  The fee is now increasing to £10 per year for all EA Affiliated Athletes from 1st April 2013. EA will not back down any further on this.

EA Affiliation gives you £2 discount on your Race Entry Fees and allows you to take part in higher level competitions that are open to all abilities.
The number of EA Affiliated Members is also used by the London Marathon for allocating the number of Club Places we receive each year.

(2) The Clubs Membership Subscription has been £15.00 for many years; £5 of this is paid to EA for their Affiliation Fee and £10 goes into the Clubs funds.  The membership fees do not keep the club afloat, the Easter Bunny & Summer 5km Series entry fees keep the club running through the year & fees we levy from our other races.  With the arson attack on the toilet and damage to the Trailer, the additional cost to the club of replacing these items an increase in the Fees of £5 was proposed.

There are two proposals in the letter:
1      To increase the Club Subscriptions by £5.00 to £10.00 per year from 2013, covering the additional charge in English Athletics Affiliations fees of £5.00 per year.

Proposal that all 1st Claim Members would pay the £10.00 EA Affiliation Fee due by EA for 2013 onwards and would not be given the option of not affiliating to EA.  (The additional time and work involved having affiliated and non-affiliated members of the club and non-affiliated members would not have the option of applying for a London Marathon Club Place).

2      To increase the Club Subscriptions by a further £5.00 per year from 2013 onwards to assist in funding the replacement Club Trailer, ongoing Club running costs and in future years to go to Club Funds.

Total Subs from 2013 to equal £25 (New Members £30.00)

Both proposals would be discussed separately and voted on separately at the EGM by all attendees who are Fully Paid Up Members of YTRRC.  If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact Deb Stanfield or another Member of the Committee.

Please be there if you can

Loads of training going on for marathons and half marathons in the spring, many members reaching new distances never experienced before. Special mention to Deb Neal and Phil for all their work on the Sunday runs and all those giving support. Below is a picture of the vital equipment required for the Sunday long runs, not sure whose hand it is grabbing an extra cake! Mind you, after 17 miles, well deserved.

Just one more... Anyone watching???

I know many are training, Julie is going well, I managed to squeeze in an 18.5miler yesterday, it is so cold out there! Fiona, James, Barbara, Sally, Anita, Kimberley, Daphne, and everyone else, respect, well done on getting out there and doing it!

Anyone fancy a half as part of their training I am doing the John Austin Half in the New Forest next Sunday, details are at this link

The following week is the Great Western, and a few of us will be doing the dreaded Grizzly down in Seaton. The Grizzly has been full for months, the Great Western is there for you, see Great Western Its a Club race, so either run it or help the organising team.

In from Rose...

There were a few Yeovil members at a very cold Babcary race today. Well done to Tim Hawkins (overall winner after some confusion!)
After more confusion I got my First Lady trophy and bottle of wine and I was First Age Graded Lady as well! I was chuffed to bits as clocked sub 7 min miles (a first for me) and in just over 51 mins I achieved a PB by 2 mins.

Full results to follow when available.

Gill and Cris plus son Luke took part in an aquathon today, Cris was 6th overall after a stonking swim and Gill was a brilliant 4th in category on a freezing morning.

Richard Dodge was the lonely runner at the Dalwood 3 hills challenge no YTRCC as all training for the Yeovil Half and coming Marathons and only one or two Axe Valley Runners all training for the Grizzly. He did a time of 1-40-02 71st and legs looking good for the grizzly
From Paul, Mr. Marathon, no 124 today...
Can't believe it has taken me to near the end of Feb to get my first marathon of the year done. Cold and somewhat lumpy day out on the trails of the New Forest at the Heartbreak Marathon. Decent run in about 3:22 and I think about 10th place. Well organised but a dull 3 out and back T shaped course. Marathon 124 in the bag :-)
Respect Paul, I know that is a tough course, a brilliant performance.

Just a mention for my latest challenge to support awareness of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, I will be doing 3 in 3, 3 Sundays, 3 Marathons... London, Stratford and North Dorset Villages (NDV last so other members can carry me around). My good friend Ian, who has done many challenges for this cause and will be joining me at Stratford, has set up a Just Giving page which I am sharing. This is about awareness, but if you can contribute please see this page

See you all soon, keep training, set your goals and go and achieve them.

All the best, and hoping for warmer weather

Terry
