Sunday Supplement - Lytchett 10

I have had this from Adam, anyone who can help please be there..

I was hoping you could ask if anyone is available this Tuesday afternoon to help with schools cross country, Ham Hill from 2.30pm. Course on the three fields at the Odcombe end of Ham Hill. Many thanks Adam

I set off to do the Lytchett 10 this morning on a beautiful if chilly day. Met up with Malcolm and Lesley before the race, all feeling a little uncertain of how we were going to do. The race was Dorset Road Race League, British Masters Championship, an inter counties race etc, so it was a top quality field. Paul and Tim were being professional and warming up, I was being a wimp and standing shivering in a long sleeved club top. Starting off in a crowded field of 443 runners with a 1.5 mile loop, back past the school and then a steady climb before a down hill and then the major climb of this race, a mile or so including some serious steep bits and then the last 2.5 miles mostly down hill to the finish. Very well organised with a great atmosphere...

Tim Hawkins (Running in a funny blue and yellow vest) was 10th, 2nd in category in 58m 03s
Paul Rose was 15th and 3rd in category in 59m 48s
Some bloke called Terry Byrne was 177th and 12th in category in 76m 10s
Malcolm Maxted was 230th and 13th in category in 79m 59s
Lesley Nesbitt was a brilliant 2nd in category in a very strong field and 253rd overall (50th lady) in 82m 05s, fantastic Lesley..

Jill Harrison was feeling unwell but being the British Masters gave it a go, she was understandably unable to finish after a good start on a tough course, she is ok and will be back to win the British Masters Championship next year!

All the results are at this link

Some of the chat about training.. I am sure some of you can get your head round it.. Enjoy and be part of it

Fiona Gaffney started it off
Right, this week is over... now time for next weeks training!!!

Tues- Half ladies- Will do a 7 miles (and it will be 7!) including Hendford Hill and a load more of the half route.

Wed- Sally and Lynne we need to do 8 miles- 6pm meet, let me know where (either Goldenstones or Podimore)
Debbie Neal ok - 8 and 17 it is for next weekend then

Sally Walford said 17!!! I will be there, with a smile on my face again wed I don't mind coming over to Yeovil, its lighter over there and there are a few more hills, still smiling

Paul Allen said Easy Sally, it's only 0.8 further than this morning Make it Goldenstones on Weds and I'll keep up all company (subject to being lurgy free).

Sally Walford said can anyone recommend somewhere to get a sports massage? I am in need leg not working, sat outside in the car 10mins working out how i was going to make it into the house lol

Lesley Nesbitt replied with - Gilly Rose, Sandhurst Road (evenings as she works during the day). I have her mobile no if you want me to message it to you. She'll hurt but it's worth it - honest!!

Fiona  - Longest run done, it must get easier from here!! Not quite the pace I would have wanted (sorry Paul) but miles under the belt and felt good at the end. Thanks to the group for great company.

Joanna Smith likes this.
Paul Allen replied, sitting at home with a bug - Well done, miles in the training bank. Around 4:30 pace so not far off what you are targeting. It may sound odd but it looks like you set off too slowly. Try and target the MP from the start, looking at the splits you had plenty left over the latter miles. Longest run so far though - onwards and upwards

Have a think too now about how you felt and what you need to change e.g. gels, drinks, mind set etc. Your LRs are soon starting and this is the place to work out what suits you and what works (and what doesn't).

Fiona Gaffney said - We were really wary about starting too quickly so will try and balance the pace next time. TY

Sally Walford said - Mind set for me, still don't believe I can do it, but saying that I still had slightly more in my legs, it was the call of the tea and cakes that got me ( and yes i was swearing all the way up the last hill )

So, reading between the lines, loads is going on, everyone is improving, Paul is providing great input, Debbie provides great motivation and organisation and everyone is involved... keep it going and enjoy..

See you all Tuesday

Terry
