Matt set the Example and James runs 36 miles..

From Phil

YEOVIL ARE AT HOME ON TUESDAY SO CLUB RUN IS FROM GOLDENSTONES

Flossy Lander sent proof she made it round the 10 miles at Wellington today. Well done James and Rob as well as Flossy

Captain Matthew Driver ran Maiden Castle Loop on Saturday evening...he sends well done to Simon Rowbottom and Lesley Nesbitt who also ran.

However... he says

What a great club YTRRC are. Its 31degrees, I'm on about mile five and a bloke goes past, bent double trying to keep balance as his feet run away with him. He collapses into the barb wire fence, where I pick him up and ask if he's ok. He runs on in the same manner and collapses again even though I try to catch him before he falls.

With the water stop looming close, I help him to the marshall and explain the guy should NOT be allowed to continue as there's a real possibility of him DYING! He was a Poole Runner, and two members of Poole Runners went past without a word while all this happened.
In the showers after, these guys were talking about the chap, whereupon I could no longer hold myself back, and said how glad I wasn't a member of Poole.
I KNOW any YTRRC member would help another in trouble!
I make the following points..
·         We run because we enjoy it
·         We run with a club because we enjoy the company
·         We run for a GREAT running club
·         We ALWAYS help a fellow runner in trouble, on for a PB, who cares?
·         If someone looks in trouble ASK and, even if they say they are ok, tell the next marshall.
·         No race or result is more important that a fellow runner.
·         IF YOU DO NOT AGREE WITH ANY OF THE ABOVE, YOU ARE AT THE WRONG RUNNING CLUB !
Great example Captain Matt, thank you!
The results of the race are here

James Day sent in this.. Enjoy

“Feel the rhythm! Feel the rhyme! Get on up, its bobsled time! COOL RUNNINGS!”
This weekend has been far from ‘cool runnings.’ In fact if truth be told it’s been bloody boiling running’s.

A massive great big thank to Paul and Jane on Saturday. Without them I really wouldn’t have completed the Ilmington Marathon. The distance wasn’t the problem it was the heat. We set off at 8:55am with the temperature already beginning to rise. It’s an off-road marathon with a set of instructions. Paul was navigating and I was behind following, making sure I never lost sight of the marathon man. Ilmington is a three (different) loop event and each time you head back to the sports hall. Jane was waiting for us there, who also did her own 4mile run.

Topped with water and off we went for loop 2. The temperature is still raising and Paul still ‘bouncing’ around like he does on a Tuesday night. Beautiful scenery across the Warwickshire countryside and back up to the highest point by a tv / mobile phone mast. Loop 2 was completed in a relatively good time. Time now for the 3rd and final loop. Temp is now at 30oc and we still had 8.75mile to complete. Paul was still navigating as we ran past a massive country estate in the middle of no-where! 6 miles to go we took at rest by a barn door, as it had some shade.

On we go, just a 10k left, how hard can it be!? 22 miles in we were greeted by a ridiculous steep hill, which no-one could run up. I was out of breath just walking up the damn thing! Mile 25 and back along the country estate path, where we nearly got lost but didn’t. The heat and the running had taken its toll. I could see Paul half way up another hill but it was virtually game over for me. It all came up, I could run no more. I walked the final mile, where I was greeted by Paul taking it easy lying against a hay-bail. I ran the final field all of 200yrds, that’s all I could muster. 26.2miles done. What an event. What a day.

Sunday morning I woke up bright eyed and bushy tailed (Oh how I lie!) to head down to Wellington to run a gentle 10 mile race with Rob and Tara. Still bloody hot, we lined up on the start line ready for the off. You know you’re in trouble when you say “one mile completed, nine to go” in your head. Wellington is a lovely, flat and fast course.

No sorry I’ve lied again. Wellington is a bitch of a course, with too many bloody hills! Five miles in I was really enjoying myself, legs were fine, temp was OK. Just five to go. I completed the race in 1hr 35mins with a sprint finish!! Yeah I’m a fool and I was only seconds behind Rob. Tara came in under the 2hr mark. (Full race results to come.)

It has been a great weekend for everyone at YTRRC. I hear that Matt is an ambassador for Poole Running Club. Guy has stuffed his face with no fewer than ten cream teas whilst doing the Blackdown Beauty. And England has won the first test against Australia. What more could you want for a weekends running!

“I have finished.” 36.2miles compete, see you all on Tuesday.
