Last Sunday we had our own race, directed by Adam Hawkins who kindly sent in this report:
Ash Excellent Eight
Many thanks to all YTRRC members who helped with or took part in last week's Ash Excellent Eight Races.
Many thanks to all YTRRC members who helped with or took part in last week's Ash Excellent Eight Races.
Special thanks to Pete for doing all the risk assessments and to Phil for bringing out the YTRRC trailer.
We were lucky to have great weather and had a good turnout for the main race, with 155 runners completing the approximately 8 miles. This year much of the course was hard and rutted in places, in complete contrast to last year when we were wading through floods!!
The winner was a MV50, John Oakes from 'Cambridge and Coleridge' in 51.13 mins. Twenty two YTRRC runners finished the Excellent Eight with Bryn Phillips our first runner in 4th Place - 52.33. Our first four men, Bryn, Leyton Green, Darrell Sheen and Guy Williams missed out on the team prize by a single point to Wells City Harriers. However YTRRC ladies won their team prize - Rose Harvey, Laura Coppard and Lesley Nesbitt.
Lesley also won the FV55 prize.
Pete Jakeman had a storming run to win the 'Fearsome Five' race in a time of 32.33 and Debbie Keeble was the first lady in 47.15.
The money raised from the event is used to support visits and sporting events for the children at Ash School.
This year I will again be organising the Yeovil area primary schools cross country races. There are 6 races, approximately once a month, and are usually on Tuesdays from 3.00pm until 4.30. Each event normally has between 300 - 400 children! If any YTRRC members are available to help we would be very grateful. Dates to follow.
Bristol Half Marathon 2013 - Sunday 15th September
We have had it confirmed by the Bristol Half Marathon Race Admin Team that 42 YTRRC members have registered to run next week. This is a fantastic number and really goes to show how this running club is coming along leaps and bounds. I have just checked the 2012 results and we only had 6 runners. That's an increase of 700%, what an achievement by Anita, Guy and James. Well done. There are still places available on the coach. Please contact Guy Williams for more information. The coach is departing from from YTFC at 07:00hrs prompt, so please be there in plenty of time.

Cows
This Running Club does run in Somerset and from time to time we have some strange supporters. Simon Eadon has sent in a picture from the Sunday Long run of an enthusiastic crowd cheering us on!
Slam Hats
To enable me to have some idea on how many mini slam, grand slam and ultra slam hats to order from the supplier, please email me at lesley.218@hotmail.co.uk if you have, or intend to, complete the required distances to be awarded one.
Please state which hat you’re going for. The distances required are:
Mini Slam
• 5k
• 5 mile
• 10k
• 10 mile
• Half Marathon
Grand Slam
• 5k
• 10k
• 10 mile
• Half Marathon
• Full Marathon
Super Slam
• 5k
• 10k
• 10 mile
• Half Marathon
• Full Marathon
• Ultra Marathon
It would be helpful if you could send me details of the races completed so far so that I can start getting the data together. The details I need are:
• Name of Race;
• Date of Race;
• Distance of Race;
• Your completed time;
• Link to the results (if possible);
• Your date of birth (for calculation of age grade percentage for the new ‘Slam Crown Awards’). Therefore it would be advantageous to yourself to include your ‘fastest time’ races in each of the distances.
Championship Table
These are now up to date up to Round 11. I’m waiting for the Bank Holiday Monday results to be published and will then update Round 12. If you notice any errors, eg someone not included, please do not hesitate to let me know. I am, and the organisers are, human and make mistakes!!
Helpers
Could you also let me know if you helped in any capacity at the June and July Yeovilton 5k and/or Ninesprings 9k as the ‘helpers’ lists for these races have gone astray.
For more details of how this all works see the Rules on the website - http://www.yeoviltownrrc.com/2013docs/ChampionshipRules.pdf
Unfortunately, it is far to complicated to administer the other ‘New for 2013’ aspect of the Rules for the ‘Time Adjusted or Handicap League’ so this is being quashed! Sorry.
I know this is a lot to take in but I hope it makes sense.
Thanks
Lesley
Yeovil Montacute parkrun
A total of 21 YTRRC members headed out to partake in the first Yeovil Montacute parkrun. Peter Jakeman is sitting top of the Age Graded League with a percentage of 75.47% Guy Williams was the first male YTRRC over the line and Rosemary Harvery was the first female. I know for a fact that the Event Director was very happy with the green and white turnout. Full results here

Bridgewater Half Marathon
Leyton Green has sent this one in. "I did the half...A great event, well organised and a lovely route, not flat by all means but no killer hills. I came about 20th in a time around 89.25." Well ran and a super result to get under the 90min mark. Full results here

Somerset Levels and Moors Marathon
Lee Hardwood, Mike Harvey, Lesley Nesbitt and Simon Rowbottom have today completed the 26.2 mile distance. Well I say 26.2mi but apparently Simon and Lesley went wrong and only did 23.9mi but then did run around the carpark to make us the real distance. Full results here
