A Time To Reflect..

Hi All

Its blog time, loads of news and bits and pieces and a little refection as Christmas approaches.

The dinner and presentations are close, the trophies and hats are being prepared, spring marathon training is underway, the Grizzly is in sight, entry forms for all our races are prepared. It’s all go..

For those who want to do the VLM for a good cause...

At Whizz-Kidz we are still recruiting runners to run the London Marathon 2014 as part of our team and were hoping that you might be able to help us out by passing this email onto club runners at Yeovil Town Road  Running Club.

As a charity, we are heavily involved in running events, particularly the London
Marathon. We thought this would be a good opportunity to see if any of the club runners that want to compete in the London Marathon 2014 to join our team here at Whizz-Kidz.

Why should your runners join our team

Why fundraise for Whizz-Kidz
_________________________________________________________________________________

Our aim is to ensure that every disabled
child has an opportunity to be something special…. A kid.
There are an estimated 70,000 disabled children and
young people in the UK waiting for a wheelchair that
fits their young lives. That’s where we come in. Whizz-Kidz
provides disabled children with the essential wheelchairs and
other mobility equipment they need, to lead fun and active childhoods.

By running the London Marathon for Whizz-Kidz, your runners could use the most active day of their lives to provide an active lifetime for disabled children around the UK. Whizz-Kidz offers a number of Golden Bond places to runners that are able to commit to raising a minimum £1,600 fundraising pledge.

If runners have already secured a place in the London Marathon, we’d still love them to join Team Whizz-Kidz. They have the same access to all the same benefit as our guaranteed entry runners, but they have the added bonus of having no sponsorship target, we just ask that they raise what they can.

Running for Whizz-Kidz is the ultimate win-win and we look forward to welcoming you onto the team! If you have any question or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Best wishes,

Alanna Berryman

One of our members (Paul Roadnight) intends to send a box out to the Philippines next week as part of the disaster aid.  He has asked if members of the running club would be willing to donate clothes, shoes etc to the appeal.

When you have time can you put out a blog to the effect that members can bring their items to the Football Club next Tuesday Club Run where Paul will collect them up and send them on to the Philippines.

They don't need coats but clothes and shoes for both adults and children.  If anyone has unwanted race T Shirts or no longer used running shoes they would be ideal.

From Martin Chaffey

"If you are setting down the  Christmas running programme, can you please put in that there will be a Christmas Hash on Sunday 22nd December, 11am at Three Elms, North Wootton - the "last hash" was quite well attended and enjoyed by all, so we'll keep the flag flying with occasional hashes next year.

The parkrun is going well and we had 17 YTRRC amongst 123 runners yesterday. If the Club wants to get the newer members doing a bit of low key cross country you could do a lot worse than send them out to Montacute on a Saturday.

Great news from The TIN TIN 10 Team

Thanks to all of you that have supported us over the last few year.  Were delighted to announce that Tin Tin Ten will be back in 2014 on Wednesday 4 June 2014.  We will keep you posted as and when we have some news.

ENTRIES NOW OPEN FOR THE CARPHONE WAREHOUSE RACE TO THE STONES 2014.

It's time to step up to the challenge of 100km on foot along the oldest path in Britain. Run it, walk it or jog it non-stop or break it into two days and share a few beers at the overnight camp.
We sold out last year and so don't delay if you want to be part of the UK's top 100km ultra.

A Time To Reflect

I had bad news from my surgeon last night, I was told I needed another operation on my knee, so what was the reaction…

Hacked off, miserable, fed up, why me? A right miserable git!!

I then received loads of support from club members and other friends and started to feel firstly very grateful and then very guilty?

What is the truth?

I have a bit of a dodgy knee, I can have something done about it, I have a specialist surgeon and I have medical insurance for some of the cost.

I can walk, I can swim, I can ride, all further than a lot of people my age, I am 57 years old, even older than Matt, hard to believe I know, but true!

There are a lot of people out there who cannot walk, let alone run, they are young people with no hope of a cure. There are boys who, if they see their 21st Birthday will see it from a wheel chair with their heads supported by panels on the side of their chair.

Whizz Kids up above, these children should inspire us, look at the smiles on their faces.

So as Christmas approaches and we complain about the cold when we run, moan about an aching muscle, get miserable over a dodgy knee, think of those kids, think of those who would give everything to get up and walk. Think about those who support and care for them, they have every right to complain, do we???

We have three choices, Give up, Give in or Give it all we’ve got. Enjoy your runs this weekend..

All the best

Terry
