Cross Country and Dinner News

The Cross Country Special

Today was the Wessex League Cross Country League race at Ham Hill, hosted by the very best running club around, The Green and Whites.

A fantastic turn out both running and helping, to Fiona and Jane and Kat and all the others who helped me round, to Tim Hawkins, Matt Driver, Phil and Pete, thank you all from everyone at the club!!!

That Hill!!
Let me describe this easy little jaunt, start up hill then an undulating jog around the short lap with no hint as to what is to come, back near the start and through a gate,by now most runners had vanished into the distance, down three little steps and along a little lane. A bend hides the first challenge, a nice long, rocky, muddy climb which is the taster for even bigger horrors further on.

Onwards and upwards, how high is this hill? Plenty of mud now, and after more ‘interesting’ little slopes, the Ham Hill special, with Fiona at the top taking pictures of the agony and the pain; have you no compassion??? Only joking, the encouragement was brilliant; this is the toughest climb, very steep and even more slippery.

Further climbing beyond Photo Point and then a nice steady downhill, over the fence and past the smiling Kat and the supportive team including dog, at this point I needed the encouragement!

Support from Guy and mate
And then round again, such fun… It was excellent!

Matthew Driver said - Cross Country - Well, fantastic basically. Many thanks to all who organised and marshalled, great for the club to support this event so well. And also to the runners (some who helped organise and then ran). A real testing course and it was good to see how much effort everyone put in. Great!

Good comeback Choice!

Strange Shirt Cris??

Captain Lesley Nesbitt says she had a good race at Brent Knoll today. Much, much drier than last year, although still slippy and muddy along the drove.
Don't know the times, but Bryn Phillips was first Yeovil runner home, Nick Brooke 2nd, me 3rd and Adam 4th. Didn't see any other Yeovil runners there.Bryn Phillips

Bryn Phillips said - A good end to a frantic year of racing, 6th overall for the race and secured 2nd in the overall standings for the Somerset Series. I've enjoyed some very good performances over this past year which has seen me gain PB's at 10km, Half and Full Marathons, all this done even with a 4 month stint in Afghanistan during the summer.

I would like to say a huge thanks to all those at the club that i've trained and raced with this year, my performances wouldn't have been possible without you. Lets hope I can keep this going next year, which again includes a nice 4 month trip at the beginning of the year.

Great year Bryn, well done

Maybe one for you Guy..
