Hash News and More

Some bits from Martin, enjoy

Good Friday Hash

There will be the latest running of the Ham Hill Hash on Good Friday, 18th April taking place at Montacute House at 11am - all welcome!

If you've not hashed before, they are good fun - about 4-5 miles following a trail of flour, and false trails aplenty to fox the quick ones and keep the group together! There's the added bonus of a beer stop and (shh, secret!) hot cross bun stop - which means that Martin Chaffey (07929 054576 / martinchaffey@hotmail.co.uk) needs to know if you are coming so that there's enough buns!

Montacute House are hosting the Cadbury's Easter Egg trail this year, so whilst we're running, the family can take part in that - normal admission prices apply, with additional £2 for the Egg trail.

parkrun

After months of waterlogged fields, the weekly parkrun at Montacute House is back up and running and it would be good to see some more Yeovil vests out in force! This is a free timed 5km at 9am each Saturday - so if you're building up to the Club's Saturday run, want to try a 5km in readiness for the Summer 5km Series at Yeovilton or you want to have a go at cross-country running in a low-key and friendly environment, come on out on a Saturday - you just need to register at www.parkrun.com and get a barcode, and then rock up before 9am!

(Club Chairman Malcolm Maxted was there this week - he'll tell you how good it was if you need convincing!!)

Maiden Newton Runners have their annual Johnny Kipps race this Sunday, 13th April at Wynford Eagle, near(ish!) Maiden Newton. This is a free 6.5mile race, where the winner gets the traditional biscuit tin, filled with biscuits by last year's winner! The course is interesting - the first three miles are basically uphill, but the last three miles are then downhill! Start at 10.30am - don't be worried if you get there at 10.20 and no-one else is there - this is quite usual!

Drinks at the pub afterwards and the chance to go to West Bay for chips after that!

Taunton Half and Marathon

There were a few of us Club members at Sunday's Taunton races (not all in green & white, it must be said!). In the Marathon, Richard Boulter won the MV60 category with a cracking 3hr14m18. Guy Williams finished 3hr45m19, Jon Hillier in 3hr55m01 and Tara Lander (is that Flossie?! she passed me but I don't know her real name) in 4hr54m42.

In the half, James Day finished in 1hr30m55, Rose Harvey sharpened for London in 1hr35m38 and Andrew Brown in 2hr07m07. I was already struggling when my calf blew at 11 miles and I struggled in to 2h27m54, just ahead of the fast finishing Kimberly Westoon (2hr29m55).
