The Sun is Out

The Virgin Money London Marathon

Well the day finally came and those running and those that supported left for London. The forecast said it was going to be wet as we headed for our various starts. The rain held off but some where more interested in getting selfies with wannabe stars who I have never heard of.

Never seen him before?? Any ideas??

Now I know this bloke
At 10:10 the gun went and off we went, the weather was just right for running, not too hot and cloudy. As you passed other runners at various points you were trying to look out for the Green and Whites but just to many people. The support from Simon, Nikki, Jane, Simon Ian Carney, Helen and Maiden Newton Running Club who had cheer points were great, sorry if I have missed anymore out there supporting and it was great to hear your shouts.

Also thanks to all the people tracking us back in Yeovil and posting on FB.

Well done to Bryn on his Sub 3 hours excellent running and also to those that ran their first ever London Marathon.

Not many phots of the running yet but some of the finishing ones:

I would also just like to say what a great weekend and there is nothing wrong with holding hands to cross the finishing line.....is there Pete.

London has now been and gone so we move on to the NDVM and we have plenty of Green and whites running in that. We have a great Picnic after so please come and support.

This in from Catherine:

Well done everyone for yesterday. What a great club!! The marathon was only a small part of what everyone has achieved as we all trained hard together over the past months. Sorry I couldn't catch up with you all afterwards. I was given a club place and felt it was only right to meet with them all (that and the amazing food in Tibits). I wore my YTRRC ultra hat with pride even though I had VRUK club kit on! Looking forward to catching up with you all on Tuesday and then doing it all again next Sunday at NDVM!! XXXXX

Marathon Mike

With all these Marathons coming up its hard to believe how we have managed with Marathon Mike. He might be returning for the NDVM, I heard that he still reads the Blog. He has sent an email to Catherine on what he has been up to.

Hi Catherine, its great to hear from you, you’re the first contact I've had with the YT runners since I left at the beginning of January, but I have been keeping up to a limited extent by way of Guy’s blog. So I've seen your picture cropping up a few times and know you've been doing a few races and long training runs too. I’ve missed the club runs, especially those long Sunday morning ones we had through the first 6 or 7 months last year, it was a special time with so many of us building up to marathon and then ultra distance for the first time, we had quite a cohesive group and lots of fun.

I'm running a few times a week with the locals, Bradenton Runners Club, and sometimes by myself on the beach, its possible to get about 14 in on the sand by the waters edge, its a bit cooler there. Anyway, our weekend runs both finish on the beach so its good to take a dip in the Gulf afterwards to cool off. The water has been warm enough since the end of January, but daytime temps are getting a bit warm for running. Its been around 25-30 degrees for a couple of months now and only cools off overnight to about 20, so I've been going out about 4:30 a.m. by myself when I do long ones and run in the dark until day-break, around 7:00. Only done 1 race so far, a 10k trail run in a forest preserve, came 3rd in age group, but have a 10 mile trail run on May 3rd and a point-to-point marathon in Georgia on May 9th. Been biking quite a bit too, came across a tricky obstacle in the road earlier this week when rounding a corner, see pics!

I wish you the best of luck for London, you’ll really enjoy it, the atmosphere is second to none, its a great event, I did it twice and hope to go again in 2 years time.

Will see you again sometime, no firm plans yet but its getting too hot to be here much longer.

Pass on my regards to the gang

Marathon Mike

All the best Mike, hope to see you soon.

North Dorset Village Marathon

Good luck to all those running the NDVM this weekend and the Relay. It is always a great Club day out with plenty of Cakes and Food after the race for Recovery. Even if you are not running then please come along to support.

If the Sunday Club run is changed from Goldenstones I will Tweet and post on Facebook.

Club Nights and Pub Runs

It's great now the evening light is getting longer and running on Tuesday's Club nights now come with a Suntan. Just watch out for the Potholes and Ruts when running off Road, also Ticks, so check yourselves after Club nights. Some information can be seen here.

New Award

I was thinking of having a new Club award for the best/silliest/caption Photograph. I collect various ones from Facebook every week and add them to a folder. I will add these to an Album and then ask for your thoughts for the winner.

If you send me your photographs that you think may win or want to be added to the list I will add to the folder. Must be Club Members and this year.

T&C's
All photo's will or could appear on the Club Awards Night.
If really embarrassing it will get shown.
If you don't like..... tough.

Hope I don't regret this lol.

AGM

This is on Tuesday 5th May on Club night, with the Chairmans 5k first. All are welcome so please come along. It is YOUR club.

Down by the Sea

Club points were up for grabs at Weston on Thursday 23rd May so YTRRC went to the Seaside to run along a very flat prom.

Fez couldn't get a word in.
Of course there has to be the stupid photograph as is the norm now that we all have smart phones.
