Malta Marathon
I will be doing a separate blog for Malta but had to mention the brief results.
First to Lauren for a new PB and a great result for her, she was disappointed with her performance but there is no need to be, she had a brills run and should be proud of the result. Second to Mr Vet himself who was also disappointed that a Polish bloke beat him into second place for the 65 Vet. A great result Pete well done. Third to Sean Gaffney for a great result in the Half Marathon, the sub 2 will be there soon. I will post the Malta Blog tomorrow. The truth the whole truth and nothing but lies.

Babcary 7.5
Another Race on this Sunday in the Champs and YTRRC runners turned up in force to Babcary.
This Report in from James day:
Babcary Road Race Report:
Another Sunday and another local race for those from YTRRC. Where were we heading today? Babcary. For an undulating 7.5mi run with beautiful Somerset smells (cow shit!) and sights, including three Lamas for cheerleading!
The journey over was dominated by getting the latest weather forecast from BBC and Met Office. "BBC says it's going to rain at one. Met Office says it's going to rain at twelve," said the unnamed female voice from the front of the car. When we arrive the forecast didn't look too bad. Dry, slightly muddy in the field and a tad chilly. Not too bad I thought.
We registered, paid our money and got our bib numbers. More of the Green and Whites were turning up as we got closer to kick-off. Some had very little rest in-between the Dark Knight run and the Babcary run. Still, all smiles as we headed to the start line.
"Raindrops keep fallin' on my head!" Just as the whistle went to make the start of the race, it rained and never really stopped. Hurmp! A good gathering of YTRRC vests headed up the hill to see what the next 7mi would throw at us. It was also great to see Nick Brooke on his bike cheering us on not only at the start but at various places around the course.
Half way round Helen and I were doing well. Helen forgot she needed a wee and we were on for just and I mean just a 60min finish time. So on we went ... We had Brian Mountjoy-Row just behind us too. More hills and the Lamas! The wind and rain really starting to make things difficult.
A random sign popped up out of nowhere. 2,754yrds to go ... Errrr, in English please? I had no idea if that was a good thing or a bad thing! Round the next bend we hit the 6mi notice. Ah ha, that's more my language, 1 ½mi to go. We were still going strong, still on for 60mins ... just ....
Nick Brooke passed us yet again on his bike. I was tempted to hop on board but the support was well needed and received. Not a word was spoken between Helen and I as we passed the 7mi marker. 3 minutes and 30 seconds to do ½mi and it's all downhill. This is doable!
The pace quickened. The cheers got louder. The end is near. Downhill we went. Quick glance at the watch. 58 mins 14 secs. We can do this! C'mon Helen! C'mon James! C'mon Yeovil! Turn the final bend. Into the playing field. Finish line in sight. Muddy. I slipped. We crossed. GPS finish time 1hr 00mins 01 secs. Bugger! Helen a few seconds behind. Slightly disappointed but still smiling through.
Another great Sunday outing and lots of YTRRC vests. Full race results were not available at time of posting. Time to go put the feet up and enjoy some port in my new shot glass.

Dark Knight Run #3
From Matt Driver:
Another Saturday afternoon and seven of us pile into Rob
Jones car for the trip to Haldon Forest Mountain Bike Course in Devon, and a
choice of 5K or 10K. With the temperature dipping below freezing, an ill Matt
Driver watched 200 headlamps disappear off into the dark all attempting to run
hilly courses on stony tracks and paths.
First home for YTRRC was the Dark Nightie Katie Brooks,
previously a Dark Knight virgin but had already got her leg over with Richard
Dodge but concentrated and completed the 5K course in style.
Having completed the longer distance, a telltale whitelight
resolved itself to show Sir Nathan Gardiner as the first YTRRC man, shortly
followed by another Dark Knight virgin Sir Darren Atyeo. Sir Rob Jones looked
very relaxed in the finish funnel, ahead of Sir Richard Dodge and Sir Chris
Woodman.
The trip home started badly with a visit to Burger King in
the Exeter services, but soon improved when an excellent pub was found (but is
to remain a secret to the Dark Knights – it was that nice!!!). With a final
stop to romantically look at the starts, everyone was tucked up in bed by the
early hours of Sunday morning...with some off to Babcary within a few hours...
The next Dark Knight escapade will be the Moonlit Flit Half
Marathon and 10K on Saturday 14th March at 6pm. The races start at
twilight but will generally finish in the proper dark!!! Website details are at

Great Western 10k and
2k Fun Run - Sunday 8th March
Don't forget it's less than 2 weeks away now until our next hosted race, so
remember to get your entry forms in to Lesley (forms on the YTRRC website).
If you are available to help set up on the Saturday morning, the more hands we
have, the quicker we can get it done. Volunteers I have at the moment are Pete
Jakeman, Phil MacQuaid, Jo Henley and Jane Mills. Sorry if I've missed someone
else who has offered!
We would also be very grateful for as many cakes as possible to sell on the
day. Please let Lesley know if you are able to provide something. The Committee
have agreed to refund any cake bakers for their ingredients - just pass a note
of spending to Pete, Lesley, or any other Committee member.
We are still looking for someone to sweep the Fun Run please. This could be
anyone who is also running the main race as the Fun Run starts at 10.30 and the
main race at 11.00 pm.
Many thanks
Lesley
Training for the Yeovil Marathon has started, well done girls good running. Sorry the pub was shut.
