Sunny Paris and Somerset

The Paris Marathon

There are few starts of a Marathon that have a back drop like this.

Nice Shades

There were five YTRRC runners taking part and with another 53,995 runners it was very busy. The race started on the Av des Champs Elysees as the Sun came up, with different start times I didn't manage to catch up with any of the other YTRRC runners but did see a couple of Chard Runners. Adam was also out there somewhere taking photographs.

The race itself was around the City and some lovely views but it did get very hot and with some of the Tunnels was very warm with no wind so like running in a Sauna. At the end it was medal and T-Shirt time and a chance to sit down next to the elites and chat over the miles.

Good Running
Well done to all, Yeovil Marathon next??

This in from Adam:

It was hot!! Kyra did 4.26, Paul Bonner's time was 4.07 which included around 30 - 40 mins in a medical tent around 23 miles, but he did finish!

YTRRC Hit Taunton

The Sun came out for the Taunton Half and Full Marathon on Sunday and YTRRC had loads of Runners going for PB's in both Races.

Some of the YTRRC Team
YTRRC is well known for its strange warm ups?

Forgot my Blusher

The half is one lap and those doing the Marathon do a second, in the Half the team did well with Nigel Parker coming in as first Male and Rose Appleby first Female.

Rose doing well
The Marathon saw Paul Allen come in first and Linda Membury first female. Well done to them, after the Race in was medal and T-Shirt time.

Then in was again YTRRC strange warm down that will now be the Official Team GB warm down.

Well done to all that completed and the Full Results can be seen here.

The Tri

Well done to Jo and Debbie on their Tri, good effort.

Summer 5k Series

The Summer Series started this week and as per normal a great success, we had great weather for it as well. Well done to all helpers and marshalls. The full results can be seen here.

This in from Dave Stanfield (RD):

Glorious sunshine and light winds rewarded athletes who ran the first of this year's 5k series. 166 entries for a race just two days after the Easter Bunny 10k is not too bad.

This year we have introduced a £2 discount for online entries and has gone down well, as we had double the number of online entries compared to last year.

Help from all the club members to run this event is what moulds the good reputation of this series; well done all :)

Results can be found at FullOnSport.co.uk.

Next race is Wednesday 13th May.  See you there.

English Athletics

We have had this in from EA and any Member of the Club can attend, they just need to email them.  Malcolm Maxted & Brian Mountjoy-Row will be going if anyone wants to travel together.

Dear Club Secretary,
We are emailing you as the main contact that we have for your club, in connection with the England Athletics consultation event that is being held for the South West Region on the evening (7.00pm to 9.30pm) of Tuesday, 14th April at Reed Hall, Streatham Drive, Exeter, Devon, EX4 4QR. We are very keen that as many South West clubs as possible are able to send representatives, and have chosen the location in order to make it as simple as possible for all clubs to get there.
You may well have seen from the England Athletics website (http://www.englandathletics.org/Consultation) that England Athletics staff, board members and councillors will be meeting at venues across England's nine regions to explain the services, benefits and resources that make up the England Athletics Club Support Package.
The meetings will be an opportunity for volunteers, athletes and others involved in the sport to feed back their views on where England Athletics should be focusing support, what they value and where they would like to see increased or decreased investment. It will also be an opportunity to hear more about England Athletics' new commercial partnerships and some of the benefits to members that have arisen from these.
The events will also form part of the development of a longer-term strategy for England Athletics and it is essential we hear from club and county representatives, coaches, officials, athletes, parents and teachers on how they wish to see the sport succeed in years to come so that the strategy can reflect the views and needs of the sport. These events are your chance to tell us what is on your minds and to debate issues in an open forum.
Of course, the South West event is also an opportunity for you to discuss matters that directly affect clubs, athletes and volunteers in the region and meet your representatives on the South West council. We very much hope that you or colleagues from the club will be able to attend on April 14th.
In order for us to plan for the event, we would like you to register by email at consultation2015@englandathletics.org with your name, club and your role within the club. The event is open to absolutely everybody, no matter what role you occupy within your club, so athletes, volunteers, officials, coaches and committee members are all welcome. More detailed joining instructions will be sent to those who have registered. If you are not the correct person for us to be contacting for your club, we apologise and ask that you please forward this e mail as appropriate and let us know where communications of this sort should be directed in future.
Many thanks,
Nigel Rowe
