Barnstaple Marathon and Half Marathon
Normally well supported by the Club but sadly in clashed with the Bristol Half, so there was Georgina Price ands I in the Full and local girl Steph in the Half. The weather was Ok with Sun but a little windy but more on that later. Strangely I was the first Club member over the line and Georgina was our first lady with a bp as well
Steph was on for a PB but due to portaloo stops and the Hurricane that has now been confirmed as a force -7 the PB was lost. But still Steph smiled as she put on the t-shirt and medal. Well don all.
Mells Scenic 7
Mells Scenic 7 - there were quite a few YTRRC runners at Mells today for the very hilly quite tough mainly off road Scenic 7.
This included six members of the Hawkins family!
I haven't seen any results yet but I think YTRRC had at least one prize winner.
Linda's Challenge
School Cross Country
Many thanks to Phil, Pete and the members of YTRRC for their invaluable help with this weeks Primary Schools Cross Country races.
385 children from 22 local school took part in the four races!
Next race - Wednesday October 12th - Aldon Hill
Thanks also to everyone who came to Town Tree Farm on Thursday for the presentation of £500 raised at our Ash Town Tree Trail Race for the Town Tree Nature Garden
Bristol Half
Once again Anita did a great job in organising the Bristol Half Marathon today and big thanks to her for this. Luke made the local news, a fly pass.
From Anita:
Results here (some YTRRC members I don't know, Luke is Aubrey, Oli is Kevin and Richard is not listed as YTRRC). The Full Results can be seen here.
Well done to all that got PBs today, too many to mention. If someone wants to get all the results in the format on the results page and send them to me for the website, thanks.
Well done all.
Mark's Pub Run
TOWN TREE PUB RUN
Tonight I bartered some tea bags for an Explorer map (good deal), then went on Adam's pub run from the Bell at Ash to the Town Tree Nature Reserve. We left via the wood next to the school and took fields down to Milton lane. The crops had recently been harvested. Then more fields to Long Load road, and off out towards Town Tree. The sun set was like a thick layer of marmalade, and Town Tree was dim by this time. Half way round we stopped for a photo-shoot and the cheque presentation. The return journey took a similar route for two of us at least. The last leg back up through the fields and back into the school in the dark without head torches was interesting. It also involved climbing over a locked gate. Great run again Adam.
I don't know why it is Town Tree? Are they rescued trees from Yeovil taken to a better home?
Dave's Bench
Saturday saw a few of the Club go up to Ham Hill where Dave's wish to have a Bench erected was completed and a Plague was added by the Club.
The bench is in a lovely place with a stunning view of Valley, thanks to all that turned up.
Sydney Half
On Sunday 18th September I ran the Sydney half marathon. It was a great race but had many out and back sections with tight turns. The weather was good for Sydney with an 18 degree temperature but overcast and no sun. We set off over the Harbour Bridge and finished outside the Opera House. We then had a very long walk to collect our medals and our kit for which many people felt they deserved a second medal! The timing of the event was interesting starting at 6.00 a.m. (It only started to get light at 5.50!) and I had finished by 8.00 a.m.! I finished in 1:49:39 in 1612 position. The winner was Kei Katanishi in 1:05:22. There were 7758 finishers.
