The Spring Riverside Marathon
Lynne and I travelled to the Sunny resort of Walton-on-Thames for the Firebird Series of Marathons made up of four Marathons throughout the Year. You get three medals like the one below.
On the fourth and last race, you get this beauty to hang them on.
So that works out at 16 laps up and down the Thames. Check out the Phoenix races for some awesome medals and great friendly marathons and half marathons.
Great Western
From Lesley:
Great Western 10k and 2k fun run only one week away. Runners get your pre-entries in now. Helpers please let me know if you're coming along to help either on the Saturday morning meeting at Leweston School at 8.50 am or Sunday at 9.0-9.30 am. Names I have so far are: Saturday - Mel Dodge, Peter Jakeman, Phil MacQuaid, John Curtis, Kevin Doherty. Sunday - Lynne Thumpston & Kate Downton (sweepers), Deborah Stanfield (computer input), Dave Stanfield, Mel Dodge, Peter Jakeman, Phil MacQuaid, Katie Brooks, Brian Mountjoy-Row. Also Lindsay Saunders & Denise Byrd (helping, then running). Unfortunately, I've lost my list of helpers so if you've volunteered please let me know - we still need you! If you would like run the course early with Phil MacQuaid please contact him for his proposed start time. We would still be grateful for a few more helpers on both days, including a couple more sweepers to help bring flags and signs back. Thank you for your anticipated response for my plea.

Hestercombe Gardens 2k
From Steve Lye:
I ran the Hestercombe woodland wander 2k this morning with my two boys. We mostly avoided the showers. Good fun to be out in the woods getting muddy and recommended (well organised). Great way to get the "little" people active and off of the iPads and tech!
Combe St Nicholas 10k
This was a Club Championship Race with a few YTRRC runners there.
Adam Posted:
Combe St Nicholas 10km today between the showers - 'undulating' with some tough hills. A reasonable turnout of YTRRC runners.
Also, thanks to all the YTRRC members who helped with this week's Primary Schools Cross Country Races at Aldon Hill, 422 children, age 6 -11 of all abilities, shapes and sizes from 24 primary schools finished the races!
The final cross country will be at Yeovil/Mudford Rec on Wednesday 29th March.
From Kevin Doherty:
From Kevin Doherty:
Combe St Nicholas 10K today was a Championship race and decent YTRRC club presence. The Park run faithful were there ( Jo Henley and Luke Hicks - I think I’m right in saying Jo’s next Park run is No 50 !! ), sSo some tired legs prior to demanding hilly/undulating course.
Adam very kindly talked me through the route on HQ Map and I was relieved there were some down hills too ..
Great support from Marshalls throughout the course – quite a heavy downpour/storm after 30 mins or so, and a challenging course in places for legs and lungs.
Kevin Doherty was first YTRRC runner home in 16th place followed by Nikki Guiver in hot pursuit 44 seconds behind and first Yeovil lady . Luke Hicks ( who’s coming back from couple weeks illness) was 2nd Male then Simon Rowbottom was 3rd Male for Yeovil.
2nd YTRRC lady home was Jo Henley followed with 3rd YTTRC lady Yun Mi Jang.
88 Finishers.
Sherbourne 10k
Well done to Aimee Deeney on the Sherbourne 10k
Amiee posted:
At the end of Sept I did my first post baby (and c-section) run... It was 1 mile. Today I did the Sherborne 10k. A tough and hilly route more like one of Matt Drivers challenging pub runs than a nice local Sunday morning race. :-) A fair bit slower than my old pb... but pleased with a finish time of 1:06:34. Ed and little Daniel were at various points on the route to give me a cheer. Group pic is with my friend and her Milborne Port posse who I am trying to recruit to YTRRC. Results don't show any club names but I didn't see any other Yeovil vests this morning.
Yeovil Half
From Kevin Stenner:
Pacer groups at the Yeovil Half to help club runners to achieve a target time.?
More than happy to run with a group with one eye on my Garmin all the way round the course. 8- 10 min/mi pace depending on interest.

Sunday Runs
From Linda:
All seasons in one day. 15 and 20 miles completed. I cycled most of the route and swapped my bike for a 3 mile run at the end. Well done all.
New Club Jacket
Fez has come up with a new running Jacket that has three club logo's on.
The cost is £30 with logos or £25 without. Louise has an Extra Small and Fez and I have Mediums if you wish to try on before ordering one. Louise or Fez will take your order so let one of them know and it should be about a week and a half to get the order. I have used it on the last Club and Pub run and like it.

SUNDAY LONG TRAINING RUNS
Linda's long training runs got us running up Henford Hill and out along Camp Road past Odcombe all the way to Ham Hill and Stoke. Here the two groups 15 mile and 20 mile parted. The 20-mile group continued to Holy Tree Cross then down into Bower Hinton and Martock where we got water refills at Rob's. We continued to Highway, Ash, and Tintinhull. Just past 13 miles I tripped on my long shoe laces and went over like a sack of spuds. A good breakfall meant I could continue running with just scraped knee and palm, and no sprains. We ran towards Montacute, then turned to go along Ball's Hill and Thorne Lane. The run continued along the top of Yeovil to St Michael's Avenue which we descended. The final leg was across the traffic jam and through Yeovil Country Park back to Goldenstones. 20.6 miles in about 4.5 hours total time was good training. Thanks, Linda and all. The weather was, however, crap at times.
PUB RUN PITNEY
We split into 3 groups tonight. Adam led a 6-mile run, firstly turning left outside the pub and running downwards past Pitney. A loop got us back to the church. There was a lot of glow and the stars were bright. Orion, the Plough, and the Seven Sisters were plain to see. The moon was a crescent, and the "bright star" turned out to be the international space station (see below). Past the church we went right for what seemed like a long way then turned left and ran past Low Ham. We ran past the church in the field. A climb got us up onto a bigger road and we ran towards Langport. Up on the hilltop, it was cool, and the sky seemed big, with several planes up there as well. A left turn got us running into Pitney again and we ran past a lady's house. The 3 running groups converged as we got close to the pub. A great pub run tonight.
