Tuesday Runs - Important Message

Hi all,
Just a message from me relating to our Tuesday evening club runs following comments that have been brought to the Committee’s attention...
All members should please remember that the Tuesday club runs ONLY happen if we have enough volunteers to “lead” the various routes. With that in mind, all runners MUST obey the Run Leader’s instructions and MUST choose to join groups that they are capable of completing.
Now, that paragraph brings up lots of issues that we can discuss for ever...however, the main points are these:
1.       We need more run leaders...please volunteer by speaking with Phil MacQuaid or me (Matt Driver). It’s not difficult, you will get guidance and you don’t need to be the fastest.
2.       A list of registered Run Leaders follows at the end, if you aren’t on it, please speak to Phil or Matt to do so. You will then be covered under the ARC insurance.
3.       If no-one volunteers to run a specific route, that route can’t be run by the club and will be removed as an option.
4.       Please obey the Run Leader, which includes stopping at regular and pre-determined points and allowing slower runners to recover. More experienced leaders may deviate slightly from the published route to take account of traffic, overgrown paths, boggy paths, etc. please support them rather than argue.
5.       All runners know their own ability best. Please select a group/distance you are capable of. We agree that you should push yourself to achieve better and better, but please do not overstretch yourself. This is a bad way to train and can demoralise you.
6.       If you are struggling to keep up, talk to the Run Leader as soon as possible, and discuss a solution. A solution may include: splitting the group into faster/slower groups if a deputy Run Leader can be found, more regular stop points, a slowing of the general pace, arranging a short cut for the strugglers, or other ideas.
7.       The Tuesday club run is meant to be a group activity rather than your individual serious main training session. Please listen to the announcements at the beginning, or be quiet to allow others to do so.
8.       Enjoy your running and take advantage of the benefits of belonging to one of the most successful clubs in the area, including: long Sunday runs, Friday track training, Thursday pub runs, monthly Hash runs, etc.
9.       Please support your club by helping at the various races/events YTRRC put on, by volunteering. To do so, speak to any committee member such as Nick-chairman, Phil-dogsbody, Pete-treasurer, Deb-new members, Lynne-welfare, Paul-kit, Matt-busybody, or any other long standing member.
Please excuse the tone of this message if it comes across as rather militant but I was told to be “subtle but stroppy”. Many thanks for reading...see you all Tuesday, if not before.
Matt

Registered run leaders:
Annie & Gareth Ashmead
Hazel Ford
David Newton

Martin Chaffey
Pete Jakeman
Lynne Thumpston
Mel Dodge
Phil MacQuaid

Deb Neal

As you can see, for a club of close to 300 members, we have a very select list of registered Leaders. If you already lead, or want to, you need to read and sign a short document to be covered by the ARC insurance. Please see Phil MacQuaid or Matt Driver to do so.
If you have any comments about this post, please contact me (Matt Driver) and I will address your requirements.

  1. Always willing to lead when there, did read document not sure if I Signed but I have led on previous club nights. My disadvantage is local knowledge. I ran Tuesday, those on the 4.5m group had a great evening and Phil did a great job
