Richards 3 Race Challenge - 4 Races in 3 Days
Two races for Richard today, the Baltonsborough 5 Mile and the Shillingstone 5, following a Dartmoor run in The Oak Crock on Saturday, The Battle of Sedgemoor 10k on Sunday.
Richard posted the following on FB
So on to the 4th and final race the shillingston 5 hill race great support again from ytrrc the alfie & arthur mini challenge is done and dusted 4 races in 3 days for the awareness campaign ""duchenne muscular dystrophy"" there is a greater challenge ahead for Alfie & Arthur and on behalf of ytrrc we wish the family all the best for the future.
I joined Richard, Tim in a strange vest, Matt, who was running the 14 miles home after the race and Jane at the Shillingstone. The hill was just as steep, the mud was still there, the down was still sharp, the rain was still wet and the tea and cakes, as usual, were very good. We were joined by Paul and Sally who had completed the Baltonsorough 5, well done to Sally on a 42min PB, awesome Sally, well done. I was round Shillingstone 6 minutes quicker than last year, pleased! Hope Matt got home ok for his long one, my long one next week.
Results from Baltonsborough and Shillingstone when available, I am told that Rose 'I Finished 3rd' Harvey had a good run at Baltonsborough. (Don't understand why Rose, but that's what I was told!!)

INVITATION FOR YOUR CLUB TO COMPETE IN THE WESSEX CROSS-COUNTRY LEAGUE 2012/2013 SEASON
A new cross-country season is fast approaching. It’s been a busy summer for the Wessex Cross-Country League with many hours put into improving what we can offer in the coming season. A decision was taken to start our season early and complete our 4 league races before Christmas. This is to avoid the usual fixture congestion that occurs each year in January and February, where aside from league XC races there are County, Regional, Southern, Inter-Counties and National Championships as well as Schools Championships for our juniors.
The Wessex League continues to offer races for seniors right through to the youngest club runners, and once again we hope to see clubs taking advantage of the limited opportunities that exist for their under-11 athletes. Many, perhaps most, of the clubs who compete in Wessex Cross-Country League also compete in other cross-country leagues (i.e. Gwent, Hampshire, Oxford), our aim is for the Wessex League to be complementary to the leagues in the neighbouring regions and we have endeavoured, where possible, to avoid fixture clashes. The first race of the season is on Sunday 30 September in Poole, then 21 October – Ham Hill, 25 November – Salisbury, and our final fixture, where awards will be presented post-race, will be at Canford School, Wimborne on 16 December.
The biggest change since last season is the backing and support of Team Dorset in the administration of the league. Team Dorset Athletics Network currently includes Bournemouth AC, Dorchester AC, Poole AC, Poole Runners, Weymouth St. Paul's Harriers & AC and Wimborne AC. The aim is to improve the result service and quality of information available to participating clubs. With this as the aim, a new Wessex League web page has been set up within the Team Dorset website. The website address at Wessex XC
click on ‘Competition’, then ‘Wessex League-Cross-Country’.
For the first time, competitors will run with race numbers (which are to be retained for the season), instead of using the ‘ticket’ system of previous years. This change has been introduced in a bid to improve the results service and enable speedy updates to the ‘Power of 10’ and Athletics Weekly.
I have had the following from Jill
Twelve YT Road Runners took part in the Battle of Sedgemoor 10 km this year. Our four ladies ran very strongly.
Kat was delighted to do her fastest ever over the distance and Rose was only a second outside her PB. Lesley dipped well under 50 minutes and looks set to shatter her best, as this is not the fastest course around. Jill continues with the latest comeback and was delighted to win the race in a sprint finish.
The heat was too much for Kevin, who ran very well, but was disappointed to narrowly miss out on another sub 40. Leyton is also on the comeback trail after his twisted ankle and cruised around for a good, fast training run without any dangerous potholes.
Some of our athletes were missing the trails and Rod is one who prefers the grassy hills and mud. He did well though and is giving us all a treat following his comeback.
Well done everyone, keep it up!

Just a note, I am putting together a social Dualthlon type event in November, it will be 10k loops, 2 running, 4 cycling, a total of 60km. You can do as many or few loops as you want, it will mark the end of our 30th year and put me through 1000km this year for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. I have about 6 people interested already, just drop me an e mail if you are interested. tbyrne@crownpetfoods.co.uk
