One year old today and THE NORTH DORSET VILLAGES MARATHON

Hi Everyone, this weekend has been a big one for the club, with probably the biggest single marathon entry in one run from the club. Finishing any marathon is tough, and to have so many from our club does great credit not only to the members and their supporters who took part, but also to all those who helped with the training, organising long runs, encouraging people new to the distance and answering questions.

Special mentions should go to Debs and Phil who probably started it all with their long Sunday runs, to Paul, Guy, Sally, Anita and anyone else I have not mentioned, special club, special people. The aim is to have 50 members running next year, and I have no doubt we will!

One year ago today, 5th May 2012, the club blog was launched, since that first post there have been a further 113 posts, there have been 21,789 page reads, with regular followers in the States, Russia, Scandinavia and even one in China! Thank you all for your support! And a word for Nigel and now Guy, for the best running club web site around and still the place for all the information you need about the club and what is does and is about!

Results North Dorset Villages Marathon.

Paul does not run in a Yeovil Vest at marathons, but he is with our club and he has played a big part in the training and preparation for this event, so I have included him. Any one who has run around 128 marathons can run in what he wants! If any one does not like it, well, tough!

Did you notice everyone apart from James has a V by their name, respect! Come on you younger members, lets see you involved next year! (I am sorry if I have missed anyone, this was going through the results and picking out our members!)

Some comments from those taking part

I know this has been said already but a really big thank you to all at YTRRC today. Fiona, running chum, Paul Allen marathon trainer, Sally and Paul for their brilliant refueling all the way round the NDVM, and the runners from YTRRC who appeared from nowhere and gave us great support!!!! Well done everyone .

Richard Dodge
Well done all who ran the NDV marathon today a great turn out people where saying ytrrc are like London buses today one every 10 mins.

Hear hear, well done all. Hope you've recovered now Rich. Poor Simon was still looking and feeling green when he dropped me off at home! How he kept going, albeit slowly, I just don't know - I think I would have given up!

Iain McCallum

I'd like to say a big thank you to all the support from the Green & Whites and families and friends for all your support today at the NDVM. All very much appreciated.

Deborah Stanfield
The Lightweights Team had a great and enjoyable Relay Race today. Thanks to Nick Kellett, Peter Jakeman and Dave Stanfield who made up the Team and made it possible:-) Thanks to all the support around the course and fun racing rivalry.
Hope all the Marathon Runners had good runs, it was hot and humid - credit where it's due :-)

Thank you so much Debbie Neal there is no way I would have got around without you to encourage me ... and a PB too :) might have gained a few extra seconds if not had to stop to vomit just after the 25 mile marker!! Feeling much better now though :)

Members were out in force clapping cheering and giving encouragement, as were loads of other YTRRC friends and associates. Must not forget to thank Paul and Sally too for their cycling encouragement and race updates round the course. Next year let’s see if we can increase the number of green and whites to at least 50 including relay teams

Some memories from the NDVM 2013

Once again, well done all, only a little envious, but first injury for several years, so beware, I will be there next year!

Andrew Brown sent this in from Glastonbury
Well done to all YTRRC runners enjoying the sun today... 10K at Glastonbury was enough for me in the heat but worth it ... rewarded with a PB for my 58:50 finish Garmin time :-)

Well done Rose, good time again.

Just 3 of our runners took part yesterday in the Bristol 10k. it was rather crowded with 10,997 others though!

Jill Harrison    41:21

Darrell Sheen    41:33

Michael Shead    56:53

From Mike Shead

Approximately 12,000 participants. Two wave start, first wave set off at 9:30 second wave at 9:45, the winners came in before the second wave had gone through the start line!

We met a Welshman in our Hotel who was also running. When I said I would just be 'plodding around ' he said he would be doing the same.

The next day he broke the age best WORLD record for a 10k in 32:54 (Martin Rees) If that was plodding I wonder what he could do if he pushed himself!

Gemma Steele broke the womens course record 32:15. Dave Webb was the winner coming in at 30:05.

The goody bag  held a t-shirt and a decent medal.

All in all it was a good run, well organized and the weather was fine.
