The Three Amigos
Pete, Paul, Jane and I went to Palma for the Marathon, we got there on Friday and met Daphne and Rob out there for a Larger or two but could convince her to stay on for the race.
The weather was a tadge warm at 36 on the Saturday but was going to get hotter for the Sunday.
Sunday came and the race started at 9 and the heat was already starting to rise in the pen.
The first half was not to bad as we ran past our Hotel and then another 3 miles till we ran back and then passed our support crew Jane, for some reason she had forgotten our ice cream but we thought Jane will meet us at the halfway point with them surely. Sadly she didn't. The second half was really hot with no shade at all but the end 8 miles was along the beach with some lovely views........
Well done to Pete who managed to get 1st in his age group, in that heat it was an excellent result.
There is also a 10k and Half Marathon option so if we do the trip next year why not come along.
Half Marathons
Also a well done to Kimberley and Simon, kimberley completed the Salisbury Half and Simon the Great Birmingham Run
Christchurch 10k
YTRRC also had a four girl team travel down to Christchurch for the 10k, Daphne did well seeing she was in Palma on Friday. Well done girls nice medals. Of course it wouldn't be a Sunday if there was no Tea and Cakes after.
Exmoor Stumble and Stagger
The Points were up for grabs in the Champs races and we had four runners from YTRRC. Mark did the Stumble and the other three, Richard, Nikki and Simon did the Stagger.
Weymouth in the Sun
All those that needed a 10 miler for their Hat turn up in force to the Weymouth 10 miler. The full results are here. Well done to all that entered, Darren Atyeo was first YTRRC male and Linda Membury was first female.
A bit cold was it Lynne |
Hats
For all those that have completed their runs for one of the hats please let Lesley know as soon as possible so she can order them ready for the Awards night. Spaces for this are running out and if you have booked but not paid you might lose your place so please pay Phil with the money in an envelope with the people you wish to sit with. Phil will try but cannot guarantee that you will sit next to the person you wish. You will of course be sat next to your partner.

Back in the sauna (a Green and White away)
Having
the easy bits in the bag for the Super-slam Award, suddenly became aware that
time is running short for the difficult bits, the 5k, 10k, and 10 miler. Heard a few days ago of a chance to kill 2
birds with one stone, a 10k race and 5k race on the same day with an extra
challenge thrown in to do both, called the Ringling Bridge Challenge, in the
event it nearly killed me. Without too much thought I entered all at the last
minute which is not my style, then found out on the day a) the 10 k race is two
laps of the 5k course, and b) the starts are an hour apart, so you have to
finish the 10k in less than hour to qualify for a start and get a time in the
5k, which for me would be a challenge in itself due to the weather and my
current fitness level. The course is an out and back, starts in downtown
Sarasota, flat for about ¾ mile, then there’s ¾ mile up, over and down a BIG
bridge to Bird Key and the turn-round. They told me the view of Sarasota Bay was
worth it from the top, indeed it was the first time or two, but by the 6th
crossing I only remember looking at the road and wishing the sun would go in.
Finished the 10k in 55+minutes, then was still in the loo when the gun went for
the 5k start, heart rate still up, didn't feel at all like lap3. Only 5 of us
successfully completed the Challenge which won me a $25 voucher for food at a
local gourmet shop! Lots of cakes and pastries afterwards, but not up to the
standard of the Yeovil ladies’ usual Sunday morning menu, and NO TEA! (but no
Phil either). And the
sauna?.........temps here are still 30+, and humidity 90-100%, slows you down a
bit, but the Gulf is nice to cool down in afterwards. Now, where is there a 10
miler?
Events
There are two events next year that we need teams for one is a Muddy run in Bovington in January and the details can be found here . See Katie Brooks for more details.
The other event is in May called Hope 24, a 5 mile loop that you run as a team of either 2 up to 8 members each taking a loop in turn and you keep going for 24 hrs. If you want to join a team let me know or find a team and enter the event. Try to have Yeovil somewhere in the team name. The Website is here
