Ham Hill to Lyme
So the day finally came and the weather was just right for the first race to Lyme from our own doorstep at Ham Hill. Race HQ was the Rangers Hut for race numbers and the first phot.
Normal pre race stuff is a bit of stretching maybe a banana or like me a pizza but for Darren it was a sprint down the hill back to Stoke, change a puncture on his car, run back up the hill just it time for 5,4,3,2,1 go.
The Race started at 9:00am and a loop round the famous Stones, like the ones at Stonehenge but older and then on through the Park and down to Norton and the Liberty Trail to Lyme.
There were four well equipt Aid stations on route with some friendly faces from other Clubs running them.
The route was hard in places with the odd hill thrown in. Pete and I both managed to take a fall but where as I did a Commando Roll got up and carried on, Pete fell got up, completed a risk assessment and then carried on.
Soon we could see the Sea but still had about 4-5 miles to go and then it disappeared with a few more woods to run through and then down into the alleyways of Lyme and to the finish. However there were no signs so any lane that seemed to head to the sea was taken, through a wedding reception then we started heading away from the finish line till we got the shout saying wrong way. Finally it was medal time and a rub down for Pete. Other YTRRC runners were there already and soon after us more came over the finish line.
The happy couple |
Then it was time for a Pint followed by Fish and Chips and get changed into our onesy.
Reports were coming in of the last 4 runners were reaching the last Checkpoint and as we drove back out of Lyme we saw them leaving and got out of the Car to give them a kiss and a hug and said 4 miles that way and no fish and chips left.
It was getting dark |

Maiden Castle Loop
This Championship Race was on Saturday evening so with points up for grabs there were a few YTRRC runners there. Well done to Leyton Green and Jo Henley as the first Male and Female for the Green and Whites. The full results can be seen here.
Matt Driver is looking for a PA, must be able to use a calendar and know what days Races are.
The Gaffney's go to Scotland
Sean and Fiona entered "The Crossing" which involves, Day 1- 64 miles + 2016 metres to climb, Day 2- 72 miles + 1407 meters to climb and Day 3- 60 miles + 1617 metres to climb.
After the first day they posted:
Fiona posted:
Yesterday was hard, really hard. We did 66 miles and 2000 metres climbed. The terrain was so bad that we had to carry (not push) our bikes up some of the hills, it took us 2 hours longer than expected and I have pain in areas I'll not discuss (thank goodness for sudacream!)
Today we do it all again with an additional 10 miles!! This is fast joining The Wall in the never, ever again category.
Sean being more poetic posted:
Just cracked 50 miles. My arse feels like a blood orange that's been batted with a 12lb lump hammer!

Notices
Nick Brooke who is the Race Director of the Easter Bunny is looking for someone to help Race direct for next years event and then hopefully take the race on. This is an ideal opportunity to take on a race that is already well established and everting is already in place. If you feel you would like to do this speak to a committee member.
Thanks to all that helped out in the Summer 5k series on Wednesday and to all those who ran for the first time in Club Colours.
The entries are open for the Ash races and the link can be found here.
