The Ilminster 10k
First of all a brief history of this event, the Ilminster 10k was organised by the Ilminster Lions Club with all the money going to local charities, then two years ago the Council slapped a £800 bill for a road closure making the race unviable so it was cancelled. The local running Clubs then decided to run the race anyway as a Sunday run and donated money to the Lions Club. It was a great turn out by all the local clubs and made the local papers (not the Western Gazette).
Maria-Jane Wadey from Chard Running Club posted about running it again today so a plan was hatched in a few days with two options, run from Montacute to Ilminster (11 miles) and then run the 10k or drive to Ilminster and complete the 10k.
Those that ran from Montacute met at 9:00am and made our way to Ilminster via Norton, Over Stratton and then onto Ilminster.
We split into two groups with a fast group and a slightly slower group, all was well till we came to a flooded lane near Over Stratton. Then as we looked for a way round the said flood a local man in his car decided to park in the middle of the flood and get out of his car. Just a normal thing to do in the middle of Somerset.
Anyway we climbed a fence ran through a wet field through a vineyard and boxed round the flood.
The slightly slower group went through the flood and washed their trainers. We finally all made it to Ilminster for the 10k. The local press were there (not the Western Gazette) and took a YTRRC group photograph so it was on with the Club vests, make-up on and make a pose.
Finally the run started and off we all went.
There were a couple of stops for people to re group but it was getting a bit chilly so after a while we carried on to keep warm.
Once we all made it back to Ilminster it was Cake and Tea time and a collection was made for the Charity, in total £40 was raised. It was a great turn out by the Club as we had loads at the Hilly Gilly. Well done to all the Runners and all the other Clubs that make this a great event.

Up date both Simon and Anita have now finished and Simon managed 3:34 and Anita came in at 4:50, well done both of you, hope the experience was great.

Pete Jakeman, Paul Allen and I went to Milton Keynes during the week for the World famous Three Lake Challenge. The first day was at Willen Lake in the sun and 7 and a bit laps.
The second day was at Furzton Lake and the forecast was for rain but at 9:30 when the Race started it stopped and remained good running weather for the rest of the day. This was 17 and a bit laps
Team Yeovil |
The third and last lake was Caldecotte Lake, another 7 and a bit laps with a well deserved full English at the end there was then the mad dash to get back for the Pub Run.
With half a Pizza of Medals for the three days a big well done to Pete on his first Triple Marathon. The Full results can be seen here. The cumulative results were Paul in second place, me in third and Pete in 7th. Look forward to seeing some more to join Team Yeovil next year, Lynne is first on the list I believe.
