Awards Night

The 2015 Awards Night.

Well after all the hard work during the last year, starting with the Santa Dash last December and finishing with the Yarcombe Yomp in November for the Champs and even later for the last few races for the Hat Awards the Award Night finally arrived.

Phil and the team did a great job and from the feedback I have heard the food was better than last year. I think YTFC did an excellent job on Friday in looking after us.

There was a rumor that there was no Prosecco (bit like Baby Sham but less alcohol) but there was and the ladies were happy.

On to the results and who got what:

BEST NEWCOMER
Lindsay Saunders: Since joining the Club Lindsay that’s the Gobby one. You all know when she is about because she can always be heard. In the past year she has certainly been about having gone from non-runner through the Beginners Group and onwards running Half and Full Marathons and finally topping it all with an Ultra.

Sadly none of Linsey getting her Award

MOST IMPROVED
Helen Nesbitt. Helen started the year being beaten by all sorts of people one of whom was her mother. Studying the parkrun results one can see that she slowly got faster & faster eventually beating her mum. Then she went ballistic and started beating everyone else as well!!!

MALE VET
Richard Dodge Unless you live in outer Mongolia you can’t fail to know that Richard set himself the task of running a Hundred races in 2015. I believe he well exceeded that completing over 120 races covering of 1000 race miles. Every week his name crops up in as many as five sets of results. A regular contributor to Facebook his endeavours are well recorded

LADY VET
Anna Lloyd Last Year Paul Allen suggested that anyone can get into the London Marathon. All they had to do was achieve a “Good for Age” time. Well Anna took him at his word and singly minded set out to do just that, and SHE DID IT, so London here she comes

PERFORMANCE OF THE YEAR

Guy Williams We used to have Marathon Mike now we have Marathon Guy. To the best of my knowledge he has completed at least 75 Marathons many of them this year. Mind you Pete is giving him some competition. Guy has set himself the target of completing 100 marathons by midway through next year. Even after running three marathons in three days he turned up for the Pub run or was it just for the food. Along the way he has also offered encouragement to others by trying to get them all to run with him. During the year he has completed well in excess of 1200 race miles.

CLUB PERSON OF THE YEAR

Jo Henley Who recently assumed or was volunteered for the onerous role of Club Secretary. If you think this sounds easy try dealing with English Athletics on an almost daily basis, the Chairman, Pete & Phil, and all the rest of the stuff that club secretaries have to do. She also has to organist all the race licences and insurance. In other word she is a font of all knowledge and without a club secretary there would be NO YTRRC. When not doing her club Secretary bit she is to be found running races all over the place including tri’s. Oh and I believe she has a job as well. She also competes most weekends and has even thrown in the odd Tri when she has nothing better to do

UNSUNG HERO

Adam Hawkins.  Adam is the Race Director for the Ash Excellent 8M, Ash Fearsome 5M and the Town Trees Trail. If that is not enough he also organised the Children’s races at the 5K summer series. Although nothing to do with YTRRC he also organises and is race director for the Primary Schools Cross Country Series which regularly attracts over 400 primary school children many of them the children of club members. To add to his problems he is usually assisted by YTRRC members for whom he regularly makes the tea. If that is not enough he is also the Clubs Membership Secretary and that’s almost a full time job dealing with English Athletics. Apart from all that he races at every opportunity probably be Points King if he wasn’t so busy doing other club things.
