The Good, Bad and Ugly AGM

Great Western

From Lesley:

Now in its sixth year this scenic multi-terrain route starts and finishes at Leweston School, Sherborne, DT9 6EN and takes in Lillington and Knighton and passes through farmyards, wood and orchards.

So please support your Club and get your entry forms in as soon as possible. You will find an entry form on the YTRRC website

The Rotary Club provide the marshals, so lots of YTRRC runners can take part. Although, we would be grateful for a few people to help out ‘at base’ on the day, ie taking entries, setting up the finish line and helping on the finish line as the runners come in; also setting up and manning the ‘café’. On that note we would be extremely grateful if you could supply cakes etc. Mel & I are making a few savoury things too as sometimes runners prefer savoury to sweet after running! So any contributions of sweet or savoury would be very much appreciated.

Katie has kindly offered to be the ‘sweeper’ but it would be useful to have a second ‘sweeper’ to help out so if anyone would like to join Katie it would be much appreciated.

We are setting up on Saturday 5th March from 8am (I think, but watch this space as it may be from 9am). Again we would be very grateful for help with that as the more people that come along the quicker we can finish. Please let me know.

You can let me have your entries/money on a Tuesday evening or anytime else you see me! Please let me know if you are able to help or supply cakes etc too please. Either FB message or lesley.218@hotmail.co.uk

Many thanks for taking time to read all this and, hopefully, supporting the event, either by running or helping.

The Good, Bad and Ugly AGM

Lynne came up with a plan to do a Double Marathon in Deal in Kent and talked Paul Allen, Peter Jakeman and myself to go and do this with her. Team Yeovil left for Kent. So we booked into the Prem Inn by the Dover Ferry Port as this brought back lovely memories of last years double. The races were held at Betteshanger Country Park

Saturday saw the first Marathon called the 100 Marathon AGM, the route is around a 2 mile and 200 yards cycle path so traffic free and dog walkers free. Saturday had cloudy weather with rain due in at 2pm. We were given a carabiner with 12 hair bands and you took on off at the end of each lap and on the last lap picked up a flag and completed one final lap, easy.

Team Yeovil

We finished the race and made are way to the cafe for a well earned cuppa with our medals and goodie bag.

In the cafe a runner came in 68 years old and collapsed and his son was very concerned, Pete went over to help out and the pain was in his legs and then his chest. Lynne jumped up and Paul and I were impressed as we thought her First Aid skills were kicking in and was offering help, but no, the waitress had called 74 and Lynne ran to get her egg bango. An ambulance was called for and the runner was Ok and even turned up the next day to do the double (runners are mad). By the way Lynne would like to say her egg bango was lovely.

The next day was the same as Saturday but this was called the "Good Bad and Ugly Marathon", it was 50 years ago that this film was made and a few dressed up. The race itself was hard, not only because of the day before but the wind on one of the mile loop was bad and blowing you backwards, still only 13 times. Finally the last lap and time for medals and another goodie bag.

All in all a great weekend and some good running by all. A big thanks to all SnN team and I would recommend any of their races, ask Katrina who completed her first marathon on the same course.

Well done Team Yeovil.

From Lynne:

Won't harp on ,as Guy and Paul have both posted about weekend races. My thanks to Pete for driving and calf massage, (not at same time) Guy for abuse, (verbal, but all in jest?) Paul for encouragement/and who's silly idea this was, but thank you, great weekend.,thanks to Travis and Rachel for the race, seeing how 100 club ticks ( great people) lovely sisters for coming to support on Saturday, Paul S for running first 10 miles with me today, nearly gave up after 4 miles!!! Hard going today, but we did it.

Marathon Mike

Well last weekend was supposed to be a trip up north to run the Mercedes Marathon in Birmingham. That isn’t the place up the M5 and M6, but up I-75 and I-10 to the one in Alabama, which is not known as Brum, but Birming Ham. However they do share some similarities: both have a population just over a million; both have a luxury motor car manufacturing industry nearby (Jaguar/Land Rover/MG in UK, Mercedes in Alabama; both have a near absence of white faces. Even had my banjo ready, but unfortunately due to heavy cold and cough didn’t make it, would have been nice to get out of the heat for a few days. So enough about that.
This weekend, feeling a little better but still wheezing I made a late entry (20 minutes before the gun) into a trail 25k, formally billed as the “Fun Run” since there is a 50k going on at the same time, at Oscar Scherer State Park near Sarasota, FL. This is a beautiful place, mainly pine and scrubby flatwoods with a mixture of giant ferns and palms. The wildlife includes otters, snakes, turtles and alligators, although none were to be seen during the race, but there were lots of eagles, herons, egrets and ospreys.
The run was approximately a seven and three quarter mile loop, which you went round either twice or four times according to which race you were in. It was mainly single track and flat, about a mile and half was on soft sand, a bit like running on Weymouth beach, the rest quite easy except where there it was covered in pine needles which hid the tree roots. As usual on the trails, I fell, grazed a shoulder and knee, and woke up this morning with bruised ribs but nothing bad enough to miss the usual Sunday club run. Outside of that, it was a very enjoyable place to run, quite uneventful and I PB’d (never done a 25k before). Afterwards came the usual party that you get over here, free beer, free food, but I do miss the CAKES.

Run Leaders

As you know on Tuesdays Phil has a hard time trying to get Run Leaders. I would like to try and get all run leaders to follow Sean's idea and post what you intend to do on Facebook as soon as you can so I can add to the Sunday blog. There are a few that do not do facebook and do not want to and they miss out on what gets posted.

This also means Sunday's so if you are planning a long run  starting at a different time or even the normal time of 9 am let me know and try to plan ahead so I can let others know on the blog.

To that end Sean has posted this:

Tuesday at 1830hrs I'll be doing another 10k run if anyone wants to join me.
The pace will average out at just under 10 minute miles to get back on or just under the hour.
So that means dipping into 8 minute miles to make up for any hills or long luxurious breaks while waiting at pedestrian crossings.
Hopefully I will have read and signed a run leaders pack by then.

Despite battling through the windiest of weathers today, it was still pretty cool racing on a circuit track! And PBing by one second 😂🏃 oh well! Onwards and upwards!

There is a video clip here  46 seconds in. It is very fast so look hard.
