Late May Bank Holiday so it must be time to head to Dorset for the Sherborne Castle County Fair. After last year success Fez gathered the best sailing crew the Club could muster so we could put out a better faster team than last year. Well that was the plan.
After months of training we set off to the deepest part of Dorset to begin the quest of winning the medals that came from locally produced metal from China.
The first RV was the main gate to collect our tickets from Louise to gain entry and then this place?
With the Somerset medicine in place it was soon time for the first race, we walked down the hill to the Briefing Point by some water type stuff and had to put on a Life Jacket and pick up a paddle type thing that was supposed to help us.
Last year the Running on Water Team managed 01.25.52, 01.20.35 and 01.22.92 so we had a time to beat. After our safety brief we headed for the Dragon Boat and managed to all get into it without falling over, amazing.
The first Race had Linsey back at the pointy end banging the drum and keeping us in a perfect rhythm and Sean gave some Gold medal winning advise sadly no one took any notice but we came second in our first race and managed 1:19 so quicker than all our races last year.
It was then back to the Medicine centre for some more liquid and a team talk.
The second race had Kimberly taking the helm and some tough competition in Leweston Girls School, off we went at a breaking speed through the water.
It was touch and go but we manage a win with 1:17 and even faster than the first race, finally the medicine was working and we were getting stronger and faster. We got back and it was time for food and more liquid.
With one race to go we needed all the help we could get, as they called for Running on Water Team to muster at the water type thing again.
But there was only a few that turned up and the Official on the microphone asked if a speaker could be placed in the Cider tent so the rest of the Team could make it to the start point. We made our way to the boat and still had some people missing but luckily it was only the Gold Medal winning bloke and his wife.
We managed a 1:16 and this remains a Club record that I can't see being beaten this Year.
No medals this year but thanks to Louise and Fez for yet another great day out and roll on next year. For the full photographs take by Fiona and myself click here.
