Crewkerne 10k
The Crewkerne 10k is a Club Championship Race and the turn out from the Club was great.
Paul Card was the first YTRRC runner over the line and with a dispute between Lindsay and Katie Brooks in was decided that Nikki Guiver was our first lady.
Sprint Finish |
We also won the Team Prizes for both Men and Women so great running and a few Age Cats as well. The results are not out yet but when they are you will find them here.
But it was to much for some:
Portsmouth 10k D-Day
Elizabeth Diamond ran the Portsmouth D-Day 10k and posted:
Portsmouth D-Day 10km done in boiling hot conditions, another nice medal for the rack. I was the only green and white there but I did have my own fans in the form of the full on sport guys who were doing the timing they gave me a big shout out as I went past. A really nice run if anyone is down this way next year.
Race for Life at Sherborne Castle Sunday 19th Jun
From Brian:
This year the new event manager has no requirement for the club to lay out the course, but would still like volunteers to marshal the route.
Any body wishing to volunteer should do so via the Cancer Research UK website www.cancerresearchuk.org or a direct e-mail to Event Manager brenda.scott@cancer.org.uk. her mobile is 07825933920

A Couple More Marathons
This weekend Paul Allen and I went down to Kent for a Double Marathon with Saxons, Vikings and Normans. A great low key laid back marathons with some serious Bling. A few from the Club have ventured down to Kent and had a great time. I will be celebrating my 100th at Dorset Invader on the 17th July (Sunday) all are welcome and it is only down the road near Bere Regis. There is a Half on the Saturday that I will also be doing and then Camping ready for Sunday's Marathon.
Committee Meeting
The Committee Meeting Minutes can be found here.
Dartmoor Discovery
One lonely YTRRC runner at this, the longest UK Road Ultra , Andy Merrick, well done a hard course with only ups and downs. The full results can be seen here.
Tuesday Club Nights
It was suggested that set running groups every Tuesday with designated run leaders could help resolve this and perhaps reducing the number of groups.
After discussion it was agreed by all that the following groups would be run;
Beginners/returners 5k - Debbie Neal
4 m - Mel Dodge
5-6 mile stopping - Phil McQuaid
Training session – Pete Jakeman
The following groups will be continuous paced runs
Marathon Group – Paul Allen
8 miles at 7:30 to 8:00 minute mile pace – Tim Howes or Rob Jones
8 miles at 9:00 minute mile pace – John Curtis or Pete Darton
6 miles at 9:30 minute mile pace – Lesley Nesbitt or Malcolm Maxted
6 miles at 10:00 to 10:30 minute mile pace – Lynne Thumpston
Pete continues to do his alternative training sessions. These are still very new but it was asked that details be confirmed in advance.
Runs will be called and started in stages one at a time.
Run leaders can chose to stick to the published routes or make up their own routes.
For my coaching stuff, I will be doing the following:
FARTLEK SESSION
Jog to the Skate park
Dynamic stretches/drills etc.
2-mile easy warm-up jog (3km) or 15 minutes
The Fartlek session is run at 3km pace
2 x (90second on, 90 second off) – 1 whistle fast, 2 whistle slow
4 x (60 second on, 60 second off – 1 whistle fast, 2 whistle slow
4 x (30 second on, 30 second off) – 1 whistle fast, 2 whistle slow
4 x (15 second on, 15 second off) – 1 whistle fast, 2 whistle slow
1-2-mile easy cooldown jog
